It was a personal belief of mine that cliques weren't real. You know, fake, non-existent, whatever.

I mean that in the sense that anyone can be part of a clique, anyone can be friends with the Populars or the Nerds, even. It just takes perseverance and a whole lotta guts.

Note: it was a belief of mine. The keyword here being 'was'.

Hazel Woods is very open-minded, well, she likes to believe so anyway. It so happens that the cause of her open-mindedness stems from the fact that her group of friends consists of one Popular, one Nerd, one Cheerleader, a Wild and Other (herself).

Her reasoning goes that if all these people from all these cliques can be friends, then anything is possible. And she means anything (well, humanely possible that is).

So when a minor argument turns into an all - out war between the two biggest cliques of all, the Populars and the Not, Hazel is granted a spot on either side.

Should she choose Mr Popular's side, knowing that there is something deeply wrong going on, or should she take the 'Not' side - after knowing a terrible secret that could possibly put her off nerds forever?

The question is not which side she will choose, but rather who she will choose.
