"Hey guys"
I watched as my two friends pulled up next to me in Michaels car.
"So, what's the plan for today?"
The two turned to look at each other, large grins planted on their faces, and eyes full of mischief.
Samantha speaks first.
"Remember that old spooky mansion I've been dying to go to? Well... I was finally able to convince this baby to go with us."
She gestures to Michael.
"Hey, I am not scared! Just... worried about the buildings structural integrity."
My heart almost sank.
"I- I think I'm with Mike on this one... It's an old building and we don't know how safe it is to be there unsupervised... Besides, it's not like there's much to do anyway."
I receive a look of disappointment from Sam.
"But I thought you loved scary stuff?"
I did, but after the last night, I was having second thoughts. Is this something I really wanted to do? Am I just being a chicken? It was just a dream after all.
I puffed out a sigh knowing that Samantha would not leave me alone about it anyway.
"Fine... Just, let's not split up okay?"
Michael and Sam seemed satisfied with the idea of at least not splitting up.
"Sure. So, are we gonna go now, or...?"
I rolled my eyes.
We left my street and blazed down the county road.
Everything was so similar to my dream. It was even calling for more rain tonight and all the woodland critters were out where I remember them being. Everything just felt wrong. And that was not helping how nervous I was either.
As we got closer and closer to the building, I felt myself getting more and more nervous.
"Are you guys sure you want to go?"
I felt bad asking such a silly question, they obviously wanted to go or else we wouldn't have been on our way.
"Yes, Eva. Why are you so scared all of a sudden? It's just a house. You don't believe in ghosts... do you?"
I took a moment to ponder.
Why am I scared?
It could be because of that dream, but I'm not usually so freaked out by nightmares. But that one felt so real. wound up coming to an excuse, however.
"N-No! Of course not, I just don't know if this is a good idea. What if our parents find out? Mine would never let me out of the house again!"
The thought of my parents learning about this just fueled how worried I was.
Sam turned around in her seat and looked me in the eyes.
"It's going to be fine, Eva. I know your scare right now, but it's going to be fun! You'll see."
I could only hope so.
"If I get too scared or freaked out and I want to leave early, can you guys take me home, or at least to the tree?"
Michael nods his head, calming my nerves a little before we pull into the long winding driveway.
The gravel crunched beneath the tires, but other than that, all was quiet. Not even the sound of a bird or the rustle of trees could be heard. It was very unsettling.
It wasn't until we reached the front porch that I realized how nervous I really was.
My knees were shaking, but I, not wanting to seem like a chicken, decided to walk in first.
This horrid game had only just begun.
