Zayn was right. Aluna was near. Her scent was still here, as if she had just passed by not too long ago. But it ended here as well. Her scent didn't lead anywhere but up on the tree, and I prayed she wasn't up there otherwise Zayn was literally about to capture her.
"I think the wind has carried away her scent," Louis spoke up a little nervously. My bets were he knew she was up there as well.
Zayn breathed in deeply, as if savoring her scent, and I grimaced at the thought. She was my mate. No one could touch her but me. "Maybe you're right," he whispered. "or maybe you think I'm actually stupid enough that I'd believe that."
"It was worth a shot," Harry muttered grumpily. "Alright Aluna, the gig is up. We know you're up there."
We waited, but she did not come down. I'd have to admit, her stubbornness was kinda cute, it also impressed me.
"Come on, love!" I called out. "We wont hurt you." At least I wouldn't. I wasn't too sure about Zayn though. He was a whole different story. "Please?"
"Why don't we try a different approach?" Asked Niall. "Anyone know any good songs?"
I rolled my eyes. "Like a song will want to make her come down."
"It's worth a shot, right?"
"How about that one song by those five guys in a boy band!" Louis piped in. "What are they called again? I don't remember, but it goes something like:
You're insecure,
Don't know what for,
You're turning heads when you walk through the door,
Don't need make-up,
To cover up,
Being the way that you are is—"
"Enough!–With the music!" Zayn snarled. "Why don't we just climb the tree?! Idiots."
Harry smiled deviantly. "One way, or another, I'm gonna find ya
I'm gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha
One way, or another, I'm gonna win ya."
I laughed silently, and in the far distance I could hear small giggles, and the thought that the laughter belonged to Aluna made a smile grow on my face. "Then climb it, Z."
Zayn gave me a warning glare and I raised my hands in defeat. "Assholes." He muttered.

"Back to you," Harry told me through a fake cough.
With an eyeroll, I climbed up the tree. Her scent was stronger up here. Way stronger, and it somehow pleased me. "Come on, Aluna. Five against one. I think you should just give up now."
I stopped when I couldn't go up any farther. This was as high as anyone could go before the branches started to get thinner, and her scent stopped here too.
Dammit, she basically slipped right under our noses like we were giraffes. "She ain't up here!" I called, jumping down with a thud!.
