"She right hooked you, huh?"
"Yeah, it hurts like a bitch. She seems scrawny, but she's got some muscle under those rags she calls clothes."
Rags? Clearance does not mean rags, it means good quality they can't sell. Lawana thought angrily.
She had woken up to voices and bright lights. As far as she could tell, she wasn't in a lab or dungeon, but she had refused to open her eyes or move since regaining consciousness. Whatever she was laying on was soft and fluffy, most likely a bed of some sorts, and as far as she could tell there were only two people in the room, and one, maybe both, was definitely one of her kidnappers.
"How'd it go with the other two targets?" The first voice, definitely male, asked.
Targets?
"Nothing." Her kidnapper responded. "Inside the school and surrounded by students the whole time. I couldn't even find one of them."
"Which one?"
"The one with the glasses and messy short brown hair." A third voice spoke up, much higher pitched than the other two, most likely female. "He's apparently one of the schools top archers and snipers, but he wasn't at the practice range like usual."
Lawana mulled over what information she did have. Three kidnappers who apparently had been watching Cosmo High for a while, and there were three targets. Apparently, she was the only one who'd they'd managed to take. She grimaced a little, how embarrassing.
"Is the girl up yet?" Her kidnapper asked.
"Not yet, but any moment now. My sleeping spell was pretty heavy, it's already been almost two hours." The female voice, now revealed to be her second kidnapper, explained.
"What do we know about her?"
"Only what the headmaster gave us. Apparently, she comes from some sort of public middle school, got accepted into Cosmo due to intelligence and ability, but it doesn't specify any more than that. She's supposed to have a high energy count, but you said she didn't use magic." As far as Lawana could tell the voice that wasn't one of her kidnappers was the brains behind the three. It creeped her out that what seemed to be another school had not only targeted and kidnapped her, but also had a file on her and maybe other students from Cosmo High School.
But hey, maybe she could warn the other target she had a description of.
"Are you sure you only made the spell for two hours?" The male kidnapper asked.
"Positive. Check her."
A cold, soft hand pressed against her neck. Lawana forced herself not to tense and kept her breathing even.
"Oh, she's awake." It was the brains. "Rise and shine, Airis."
Wondering how he'd known, or if he was just bluffing her, Lawana opened one eye. She was staring at the wall away from the other three, a white window frame the only thing she could see.
"Rise and shine?" Lawana sighed. "Awfully nice way to wake someone up."
"I try. Sit up."
Knowing she was outnumbered, she complied. Once she was facing the trio, she almost laughed. Almost.
All three were dressed in a school uniform of sorts, confirming that this was, in fact, another school. The uniform consisted of a black button-down, a white blazer, and light gray dress pants, or in the girl's case, a mid-thigh length gray skirt. On the blazer was a tiny school crest of a white tiger laying with its head up. The taller boy was her first kidnapper. He had dyed white hair that made his pale skin look even paler and no obvious signs that indicated his species. The girl had shoulder length curly brown hair, light blue eyes that stood out against her dark skin, and large semi-translucent fairy wings protruding from her back. The closest one to her, the brains, had olive toned skin, hazel eyes, and dark brown hair. Just like the other male, he had no obvious signs that pointed to his species.
