I stumbled forward, my vision a blurry mess. My feet were aching; the skin ripped and smeared with blood. I couldn't run any further.
I staggered forward, noticing bright lights ahead. I reached out, trying to grab them before my knees buckled and I fell to the ground.
Everything went black.
"She's with me.. Yeah.. She's fine.. I'm sure of it.. I understand.. Mhmm.."
My ears tuned into a calm voice, sounding like it was coming from above me. I fidgeted, feeling a soft, warm cushion beneath me. I opened my eyes, slowly regaining my vision. Everything was blurry, but I could make out some of my surroundings.
I was in a messy, disheveled bed in the center of a cream colored room. There were end tables on each side of the bed, and a dresser pushed against the right wall. Everything seemed to have a corresponding theme, but there were no decorations or pictures on the walls. The door at the foot of the bed was wide open, leading to another room, but I couldn't see that far.
I propped myself up onto my elbows, cringing from small aches and pain coming from all over my body. My ears began to pick back up onto the noises coming from the other room, including the voice that woke me up. I tried my best to eavesdrop, though a loud ringing in my ears made it complicated.
"Listen," The voice began. It was a man's voice, that was for certain- but I couldn't tell if I recognized it or not. "I understand that you're scared, but do not call the police, alright? I'm serious.. Why not? Because the damn house is packed with illegal substances. Do you want her only parent to be in jail for the rest of her life? ..That's what I thought. I'll go over and check it out later, just.. don't do anything- that includes worry about Ellie! I'll talk to her when she wakes up, okay..? I have to go.. Oh, hey, before you hang up! You uhm.. You know I wouldn't let anything happen to her, right? So just... Just don't worry.. I really have to go now.. Bye.."
He was talking about me... He was talking about me and my father.. He was talking about whatever the hell happened last night..
The sound of footsteps started towards the bedroom, prompting me to drop down onto my back, acting like I was still sleeping.
The footsteps crept closer until they stopped completely. I sensed the man standing over me; his eyes watching me as I 'slept'.
"You're not a convincing actress, Price."
My heart froze.
For the first time ever, I was happy to hear his stupid, ugly voice.
"Thank god..." I exhaled the breath I didn't know I was holding in. I sat back up, just as Zayn sat down on the edge of the bed. He looked tired and worn, but I guessed that I looked worse.
"Where am I..?" I asked, dragging my hand down my face, my cheek feeling a bit sore.
"You're in my bed." He chuckled, my stomach flipping at his answer.
"I'm- what?! Did we- Zayn!"
"Calm down!" He shut me up, the expression on his face was clearly annoyed.
"We didn't do anything last night." He reassured. "I found you, brought you back to my flat, let you sleep in my bed, and I slept on the couch."
"Wait, what do you mean you 'found' me?"
"Do you not remember?" He furrowed his brow, clearly as confused as I was.
"Not really.." I replied slowly. "I remember running.. Then I blacked out."
