chapter twelve ⦙ jumping around

the fireworks were crackling and exploding with undeniably amazing colors and design. i stood there on the rooftop of the university, surrounded by other students.

happy new year everyone greeted cheerfully and enthusiastically, while i continued to hold my red solo cup. fortunately, we were allowed to go home for awhile to spend time with our family today.

here in university was lonely— i didn't have much friends and my roommate completely ignored me, and because i didn't want to bother her, i just let her be.

i said my goodbyes to my professors and went down many stairs to my dormitory.

i finally arrived by the door of 702. i put my key in and the door opened.

it revealed me and my roommate's messy beds. i packed my stuff in a couple of suitcases and off i went.

i hopped in my car, excited to head home regardless of the long drive.

i pushed in my house key in the keyhole, revealing maddie on the couch. she hopped off the couch, and wrapped her arms around me tightly. i bear hugged back. suddenly, my mom came scurrying down from the stairs quickly, joining the hug. we didn't even speak, without them i felt incredibly lonely, and they seemed like they missed me too.

after our warm hug and catching up, i went to my room and dropped myself on my bed.

maddie came in abruptly yet again, she stood by the door smiling.

unexpectedly, the orlando's had just happened to come to my head. where was lauren, meredith, dale, maddie, darian— or even john?

"where's johnny and lauren? don't they have a small break too?" i asked maddie, perhaps she knew, for some reason anyway she always knew.

"they didn't take their break. they decided to stay at their colleges, but they'll be back by december next year," responded maddie. my previous smile slowly faded away.

"why?" she questioned.

"just curious." i replied.

i wasn't only curious. perhaps my feelings from last year haven't faded one bit, i still loved him. loved his physical features. loved his goofiness. loved his generosity. loved his kindness. loved his strong care. i still loved every bit of him.

i don't know why i still have feelings for my stupid childhood crush, why did i?

"i know that look kenzie," spoke maddie, pushing up her what she called 'for-fun' glassses.

"what look?" i asked, gulping anxiously again.

"that one. who is it?" she asked, i tried to look away so she wouldn't see. but no matter how hard i tried, maddie always could see. she's my older sister— she's known me my entire life.

"kenzie.." she paused and continued. "is this about him? john?"

i looked at her nervously, slightly fearing what was going to happen next.

"you still love him.." said maddie. "you love johnny!"

she chanted, "kenzie loves johnny!" repeatedly, jumping and running around my room wildly and throwing my pillows around.

"okay, maddie, chill," i said.

"kenzie! do you see the amount of mistakes you've done? you've got to apologize to him when he gets back! keep it in mind kenz, before it's too late!" she exclaimed.

"maddie, i don't think i'm gonna be able to fix things again with johnny. after our horrible and frightening argument last year, he probably hates me. it is too late. he's probably back with sophia." i answered with sorrow.

"oh please! sophia is not like you kenz! you have to fix it with him! so that you can date him and we'll all be happy!" she yelled, still jumping and running around my room.

"i can't, maddie. i can't," i replied.

"mackenzie frances ziegler! you are the most beautiful, smart, loving, and amazing person i know! why wouldn't he want you? you're perfect! if anyone can do it, it's you!" she screamed, yet again still jumping and running around like a monkey.

"maybe i can," i said, a smile suddenly coming across my face.

"yes you can! we can do this can! you can do this!" maddie yelled, pumping her fists around happily and still jumping like a frog.

"yeah, i can!" i said, standing up on my bed and jumping.

"you can!" she said, jumping too.

"yes!" i yelled, jumping around.

suddenly, after too much jumping i fell on maddie and we were laughing hysterically like hyenas.

i can do this.
