Chapter Three

"What the hell kind of day did you have today?" Derrick asked while we were cleaning up after dinner.

"It was rough, let me tell ya," I started to load the dishwasher.

"So he's really your grandfather AND he's got a twin? What the hell..."

"Yeah, and I wonder what happened to his twin."

"Probably died or disappeared during the first war. Maybe he died at birth. He knows."

"We don't even know if his twin was a boy or girl."

"That's valid," he replied.

"Oh, yeah," I replied.

"I didn't say anything to deserved that."

"I forgot you had a twin sister," I paused, "And you're a boy."

"Good observation, babe. I just love when my significant other reminds me of my gender," he paused, getting closer to me, "But I'm not a boy, I'm a man. Don't forget that."

"Knowing you, you'll remind me for the rest of our lives."

He wrapped an arm around me, "Mmhmm..." he kissed my neck, "That's my job."

"I have homework to do," I said.

He let his arms drop, "Fine."

"Eh, I'm getting straight A's. I'll do my homework later."

"You need to do it, Jordyn. You're almost done."

"Exactly. I'd much rather spend time with you. Please. I never see you."

"You'll see me when you graduate."

"No, I'll be planning a wedding."

"Then you'll see me on the honeymoon."

"Then I'll be off to college."

He exhaled.

"Or we'll be fighting in that war and one of us will die. Who knows?" I shrugged, walking to the bedroom.

"Don't say stuff like that."

I plopped on the bed and closed my eyes, "Why not? I'm finding out all of these secrets and lies. And I can't tell who's lying to me and who's using me. But something is not right anymore."

He started to kiss my neck, "Then let's forget all of that right now and just be together; because I love you and you love me. So let's be in our own little world tonight; just you and I. What do you say?"

I opened my eyes, "I say: what are you waiting for?"

He smiled at me and kissed me.

*********

The next morning I was walking into the school and was stopped by the principal.

"Miss Marx," he said, "I'd love to see you in my office, please."

I just nodded and followed him.

We made our way to his office and sat across his desk from each other.

"Yesterday, you were seen skipping class."

"I had a doctors appointment. I have a slip," I replied, "I actually gave it to Mrs. Brentz."

"We have no record of that note you mention."

"It was in my bag and Taylor dug it out for me and handed it to her. She looked at it and accused me of forgery."
