CHAPTER THREE - a town without a coffee shop, shouldn't be called a town

I woke up the next morning feeling a bit lost, i didn't recognize where i was at first, then it sinked in.

I slowly shift my body to the other side only to face the blinding rays of daylight.

"GAH" I groan covering my face with my blanket, protecting my fragile pupils from the poisonous light.

Curtains! I forgot to put up damn curtains!

"Why mee" i whine kicking the sheets off, dragging myself to the bathroom.

I'm not allergic to the sun or anything, don't get me wrong. I'm just not very fond of bright lights.

I like to keep the lights off in my room most of the time. Needless to say but i usually lay down with my arms pinned to my side as i stare at the white ceiling painted by sunlight. Especially at 5:00 pm, when the sun's not too bright and the sky's in that perfect shade of sunset. i'd watch as my room gradually gets darker along with the rest of me.

I put on a pair of old jeans and a plain black shirt. One of the many things my mom hates about me: the way i dress.

"You're a lady, Amy. Dress like one." She'd always remind me as if i am unaware of my own gender.

If you look closely, you'll notice the veins in her neck popping out while she sips her tea every time she see's me walking out the front door looking the way i do.

She only wants what every mother wants/has; her very own barbie doll to play dress up with. But you can't always get what you want in this world, now can you?

I get that a lot, feels good to hear it directed towards someone other than me for a change.

I climb down the stairs that lead to the empty hall next to the living room. I peek inside to see if my mom's home and sure enough, she was.

She sat there quietly staring at her lap, holding up the telephone up to her ear.

"I can't handle this anymore, James" she muttered through the speaker covering her face with her other hand, letting out a deep breath.

She's exhausted.

It pains me what i do to them. I know i'm not the daughter they wanted, and i'll try to be okay with that.

Staring at the drop that stained the wooden floor, i sighed rubbing my eye.

-

I drove my bike to a diner called "Johnny's dine" i found downtown, since i didn't find any cafés around.

What kind of place doesn't have a coffee shop?!

The diner was cool though, way better than the one i used to work part time in. It looks similar to the one in "Cinderella story" with the stools and booths except they were bright red instead of pink and the waitresses here don't wear roller blades.

The place wasn't too crowded to my liking, just a few couples here and there, a group of college students buried in their textbooks and this curly haired guy sitting on one of the stools chatting with the old lady at the cashier.

I took a seat 4 stools away from him as he continues talking

"Then the hot girl told me to kiss her! Like on the lips!" He stated with his hands flying in the air.

"Well, you are a very handsome young man, Samuel." She chuckles placing the napkins she folded into their metal containers.

"Thank you, Linda. I'm flattered, If only you were 40 years younger" he sighs and she covers her mouth laughing in disbelief "Samuel!" She scolds throwing a napkin at him, which he dramatically catches midair and gives it back to her as she angrily snatches it from him

"What? You started it" he raised both hands in surrender and she shakes her head quietly laughing as she neatly folds the remaining napkins.

"So anyways, after that hot girl told me to kiss her another hot girl showed up, and another one AND another one! Then they started fighting over me!" He laughs in amusement.

"And that's basically how my dream went" he finishes, gulping down what's left of his already cold whatever he's drinking.

"Kids these days.." She muttered walking towards me.

"Now what can i get for you, sweetiepie?" She asks me with her southern accent and a bright smile.

"Um a cup of coffee would be fine, please" it's inhuman not to be polite with this old lady.

"Alright sweetie, i'll be right back with your cup of coffee." She tells me and walks away, leaving me with the guy she was talking to earlier.

Which is currently stealing glances at me while he pretends to be sipping from his empty cup.

It's only us two sitting in this counter so its pretty awkward and he's making it even more uncomfortable by staring.

so i do what i always do in awkward situations, i pull my phone out of my front pocket and started a new text msg:

"Hi! I'm here in this new town with my family and it's as awful as i thought it would be. The place doesn't even have a coffee shop! Can you believe it? I'm hating it here and i'm missing you a lot." Send.

I look up from my phone when linda comes back with the coffee i ordered and the guy immediately looks away.

I thanked her in which she sweetly responded and walked back to the cashier register

"Boy what are you doing? If you wanted mor-" "Here," he quickly cuts her off taking out his wallet to pay for his drink

"But yo-" he cuts her off again

"Now don't you go running off telling tom about us, alright?" He winks

And she scolds him again

"Tell him i said hi" he says as he stands up to leave.

He blankly looked my way before walking out the door, his eyes not meeting mine.

Tsk, he's probably randomly looking at the floor or something.

I always overlook things.
