When Alex and I got to school after the five minute walk from home, we saw many of our classmates buzzing around about the newest gossip.
"We have a new boy in our class!" One girl said to her group of friends.
"I heard that he's a troublemaker. How'd he end up here?" Another girl commented.
Alex and I walked to our lockers in silence in order to hear about the apparent new student. As I put in the combination in my locker, Alex nudged my shoulder. "Jazz, what do you think?"
"About the new guy?" I got my locker open, and shrugged. "Can't say anything till I see him for myself."
Alex proceeded to open his locker, but then paused again when he was about to put some of his books in it. "Do you think what they're saying is true? That he's bad news?"
I laughed as I transferred two of my binders from my bag into the locker. "Al, you sound like someone from one of those cliché teen movies."
He also laughed. "I know I do, but seriously. Who could he be?"
I finished putting everything that I needed to in my locker, and closed it, looking at Alex afterwards. "My dearest Alexander, please stop worrying about it. They're probably just saying that because they have nothing better to do than to spread rumors and cry over getting 99s."
He sighed, putting the rest of the stuff and his locker, and closing it. "You're right. I'll drop it."
I smiled, and we walked together to first period. When we got there, we went to our seats in the back of the class. Our first class was History. Government, to be exact. It happened to be my favorite class. Our teacher, Mr. Townes, loved us. Mainly because we were the complete opposite of his other students but also because we had a "natural knack" for the subjects talked about in his class.
I pulled out my laptop, and logged in. "So, Alex..."
"Yes, Eliza?" Alex responded to me.
I scrunched my eyebrows at him. "I thought I was Angelica on Mondays?"
He shrugged. I continued. "So anyway, I was wondering if you would read my English essay. I mean, I've checked over it at least three times, but I just wanted a student's opinion."
I pulled the essay up and handed the laptop to him. He started reading, and I grabbed a novel out of my bag that I had been reading for a couple of days. I was almost finished, meaning I would most likely have to go by the library sometime today.
Students piled in as the time got closer to the beginning of the school day. As they filed in to class, I heard even more comments about the new guy.
"Oh my gosh, Gina! He's so freaking hot!"
"I know right! And he's supposedly a jerk. God, I can't wait to get my hands on him."
I rolled my eyes in my head. This children had nothing better to do than sound like lovesick idiots. Geez.
Alex handed me my laptop a minute later with a smile on his face. "Well, my bestie will receive yet another 100 on an essay."
I smiled back at him while shaking my head. "Thanks but I think that's going a little too far."
"So arrogant," Alex said sarcastically.
We laughed and made conversation in the last two minutes till class started. When the tardy bell rang, the last few students arrived along with someone I had never seen before. This must have been the new student. I heard Alex gasp slightly. "God, he's sexy."
I usually didn't fangirl over guys that I found attractive, but Alex was right. This guy was, in fact, sexy, and I couldn't even pretend that he wasn't. He was like a model out of a GQ magazine. He was fair-skinned but with a slight tan, like he lived on the West Coast in California. His hair was dirty-blonde, and his eyebrows were dark brown.
