Steve held Emma as she peacefully slept on his shoulder. Seth walked slowly behind them, making sure he didn't step on any cracks in the cement.
"Dad, can I sit up front yet?" Seth asked. Although he was only 5 he asked after everyone of his soccer games.
"Sorry, buddy. You can't." Steve said and opened the back door of the gray truck they had. He lifted Emma off his shoulder and set her in her car seat. He buckled her up and went to his seat.
"Dad, why can't I?" Seth asked and pulled his cleat of his foot.
"You're too young, Bud." Steve said and looked back before pulling out.
"Hey, you want ice cream?" Steve said and pulled out of the parking lot.
"Yeah!" Seth yelled and woke Emma up. She started to cry.
"Emma, what's wrong, baby?" Steve said and held his hand back so she could grab it at a red light.
"Seth, woke me up." She cried.
"He didn't mean it, Pumpkin." Steve said and turned into Dairy King's parking lot.
He parked the car and Seth jumped out of his seat. He opened Emma's door and unbuckled her.
"Daddy, are we getting ice cream?" Emma asked and grabbed Steve's North Face jacket that he was wearing. She had a matching one but it was pink not black.
"Yeah, is that okay?" Steve said and straightened her jacket. She nodded and rested her head in his shoulder.
As they walked in, a cool sweet breeze hit their faces. Emma raised her head and looked at all the flavors. Steve looked as well but followed Seth to the back of the line.
"Dad, I want chocolate." Seth said and shoved his hands in the pockets of his jacket.
"Okay. Emma what do you want?" Steve said and grabbed his wallet.
"Blue." She said and pointed at the blue ice cream, which really was cotton candy.
"That sounds good." Steve said and moved up in line. Emma turned her head to look around at the people who were ordering.
"Daddy, how do you make ice cream?" Emma asked and grabbed the zipper of his jacket.
"It's hard." Steve said and lifted Emma so she was sitting on his shoulders. She rested her chin on the top of his head.
"Next!" The cashier guy yelled and moved his finger for Steve and his kids to move forward.
"I will have two single chocolate scoops, and a single cotton candy. All in bowls please." Steve said and let Emma down she grabbed his hand and put her head on his thigh. The cashier guy got what they wanted and handed it to Steve.
"That'll be $6.27." The cashier guy said and held out his hand for the money. Steve handed him seven dollars and grabbed his change. He handed Emma her ice cream and she ran to the table that Steve pointed out for her to sit at.
"Daddy, Daddy!" She yelled and patted the seat next to her.
"I'm coming, pumpkin." Steve said and sat in the seat that was adjacent to her.
"Daddy, can I play soccer too?" Emma asked and moved so she was sitting on the lap of Steve.
"No!" Seth yelled and crossed his arms. Emma pouted and leaned back into his chest. She sniffled back a few tears and took a bite of ice cream.
"Why not?" Steve asked and hugged Emma tight. She sat up and grabbed Steve's phone that he had set on the table. She unlocked it and clicked FaceTime. Since Steve hadn't noticed she FaceTimed Clint Barton.
"Um, Hi Ste- Oh, hi Emma." He said. Steve looked at what she was doing and grabbed his phone. She lifted her hands up to grab the phone and started to whimper.
"Daddy, Stop!" Emma said and got the phone back.
"Hi, Clint." she said and waved.
"How are you, Em?" He said and grabbed Natalie from his side.
"I'm good." Emma said and grabbed Steve's hand. Steve grabbed his phone and moved it so that both of them would fit in the screen.
"Hi, Steve." Clint said and Natalie grabbed the bottom of his face he fake bit her fingers, and she laughed and Emma laughed.
"Mommy, Daddy's being funny!" Natalie shouted and jumped off Clint's lap and running off screen.
"So, how was Seth's soccer game? Did he score a goal?" Clint asked as Natalie ran back to him.
"He won the game and he didn't score but he did do some great passes." Steve said and tickled Emma's sides.
"Well we have to go, Bye Clint." Steve said and hung up. Emma turned around and looked up at Steve. She smiled and put her head in his chest.
"Daddy, I'm tired." Emma said and let out a yawn. Steve grabbed her by the sides and picked her up. He grabbed the bowls and threw them away.
"C'mon Seth." Steve motioned for him to come to him. Seth got up and threw his bowl away too. They headed out to the car and headed home.
