The words burned my skin, singeing my confidence and destroying any emotion I had left.  Although the words were painful, they were nothing compared to what came after; I had the scars to prove it.

"Aurora, you good for nothing bitch!" the voice taunted, a hand reaching out to hungrily bruise my face.  I bit my lip as my tormentor came down full force, a dictionary meeting my hairline.  I cried out, but the hand silenced me.  I took another dose of pain, blue eyes looking pleadingly up at blue eyes.

I glanced at the only source of light in the dimly lit room, a lamp.  I ran towards it, but the hand got there first.  The base of the lamp collided with my skull and all pain left my limp body.

I awoke with a dull throbing encasing my brain, the sunlight streaming through the curtainless windows didn't help much either.  As the clock blared eight, I pushed myself from the floor and gripped my foundation, not hesitating to cake it on over the fresh bruises.

I didn't bother changing my white tank top as I pulled on a pair of long, slender blue jeans; they would hide the gangly cut trailing from above my knee to my ankle.  As my mother thrusted open the door, I quickly threw on a sweatshirt; I couldn't let her see my damaged body.

"Aurora, the bus will be here any minute!  Here, take this."  I grabbed the bagel from her hand and ran to meet the bus whose driver was giving me death glares.

The school day passed without much incident besides the strange looks my outfit received.  My friends made sure to give their comments on my wardrobe, too; they were oblivious to the abuse I suffered.

Upon returning home, I tiptoed to my room, making sure to lock it this time.  Collapsing on my bed, I let my fears take over my subconscious.

I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, reentering my living nightmare.  It was pitch black out, I had accidentally slept for seven hours.  The doorknob rattled and the hand was back with a vengeance.  It held nothing back as it darkened already yellowish skin.

I looked down, and swallowed hard.  There was no mistaking the faint shine of the kitchen knife with the red, blistered hand gripping the black handle.  My eyes stung as tears brimmed over and dampened my cheeks, leaving a thick trail of mascara.

The touch of cold metal on my neck overwhelmed me as hand lightly traced around my chin and down my middle.  The knife found my wrists and desperately pressed down, finally drawing blood.  I shrieked and writhed in agony as the floor became sticky, blood dripping everywhere.  One last time I glanced at those desperate blue eyes.  I hated what I saw.

In a final act, I pulled off a high heeled shoe and hurled it towards those once bright blue eyes.  The mirror shattered around me in several large shards.  My heavy breathing slowed and everything went dark.  Sirens echoed in the distance before everything fell into a black hole.
