I wait anxiously for the bus that will take me to AAP. My mom was still taking pictures, even though she should have been at her hospital half an hour ago.
"You look so cute in your little uniform!" She adored the maroon dress with and black bottom.
It had the academy crest over my heart and a spiderweb themed silver pattern on the black skirt.
We only had to wear it on the first day of school and other important days.
I braided my long brown hair and have maroon shade of lipstick on. My luggage had been sent to the school a couple of days before. All I had was a small backpack that I filled with school supply.
My mom shows me the photos she took. I immediately regretted the lipstick. It really compliments my light blue eyes, but also looks like I made-out with a clown. So I wipe it off on the back of my hand.
A big fancy school bus pulls up in front of our house. My heart starts to race as the metal door opens.
"Good luck! Honey!" Mom pulls me into a hug and squeezes me so hard, I stopped breathing for a second.
We break apart, "I love you Mom!"
She waves goodbye as I walk into the bus.
Kids all about my age fill up all of the seats. Not one spot was open.
I walk towards the back and see a spot open.
A girl with blonde hair looks out the window and takes up the whole seat. "Do you need an entire seat to yourself?"
The girl turns to look at me, she had a bright smile, dazzling green eyes, and a small tube that breaks at her neck line and reattaches in her nose. That is when I see she is carrying an oxygen tank.
"I'm sorry but I kind of need the space..." She smiles at me making me feel guilty.
"I'm so sorry I didn't know...I...." I stop myself before I say something stupid.
Then behind her I notice a boy sitting alone. "Can I sit here?"
He stares at me for a while, as if I he had never seen a girl before. The boy nods and scoots over to make room.
"I'm Victoria." I smile at him and he smiles back.
He has big brown eyes, brown hair and was incredibly pale. "I'm Thomas!"
The bus jerks to life and people start talking to one another.
I watch as my little suburban Chicago home disappears into the horizon.
Thomas and I continue to talk to each other and with the blonde girl in front of us. Her name is Chloe.
Five minutes later the bus driver's voice comes on over the speaker. "Ok kids! I'll be shutting the windows so if you want to get comfortable, go ahead!"
At that moment the dark tinted window all snap shut. What did he mean by get comfortable?
My question was then answered, a horrible tearing sound or the sound of zipping. All the pleasant looking kids were now replaced with monsters and creatures I've never seen before. It's like a sick joke.
A boy with fiery wings and hair starts to fly around above us, while a girl dumps something on her head to reveal her wild snake hair. A kid who had a hoodie pulls the hood down and flashes his fangs, and three green trolls jump out of the skin of the boy that was in the front seat. The only normal people on the bus are Chloe, Thomas, and myself.
I tap Chloe's shoulder, "What's going on?!"
She slowly turns toward me, her peachy skin was now a light blue with scales sticking out, a film-like substance stretched between her fingers and her eyes like bright green light bulbs. "What do you mean?"
I notice water flowing through what I thought was an oxygen tank. A hand touches my shoulder. "Victoria are you ok?"
It was Thomas, his brown eyes full of worry. Nothing about him had changed. "Thank goodness a normal person!" I cling to his arm, "What's going on?"
"Well we are going to Arachville's Academy for the Paranormal. It would make sense if everyone wasn't a human!" He states calmly. As if this was normal.
"What? But I'm a human!"
He stares at me confused, "If so then how could you read the acceptance letter?"
"What do you mean?"
Chloe turns around, "The acceptance letters are written in a special ink. So when a paranormal being reads it, they see an acceptance letter!"
"That's why at first the letter was a rejection letter, it's a protocol for humans who sign up." Thomas digs through his bag and pulls out his letter.
I grab my head with my hands, "This makes no sense!"
A bug headed boy sat across the isle, his pincers clicked when he looked at me. I hated bugs.
I close my eyes, hoping it's just a dream. "This isn't real, you're sleeping. This isn't real, you're sleeping....."
My mind spins at all of my surrounding. This can't be happening to me!
