It was a crisp blue morning in California. The sun had barely risen, but Marisol Ray had already left her house. She loved walking to work because of the way the sun rose over the city.

As she took a deep breath, Mari was all ready for her day. She had to make it through the day so that she could go on vacation. "Just a few hours" She muttered to herself.

The day went by fairly normally. Mari got her work done, chatted with her co-workers, and made it past her daily quota.

After work, everyone was going to get drinks. Her co-worker Megan smiled. "You want to come?" Mari shook her head. "I'm just going to go home." Megan nodded. "Yeah, you're taking next week off, right?" Mari nodded. "Yeah. I'm visiting my mom back home." Megan smiled. "Cool." Mari sighed. "Anyways, I should get going. I have to pack." She walked past Megan and out the door.

The evening air was even more enjoyable than the morning. Mari was practically skipping down the street, she was so giddy.

Passing by the power plant, the brunette heard a rumbling noise. She paused, and faced the building. That's when tragedy struck. The building exploded, and pure energy was released into the mile radius. Mari was knocked back, hitting her head on the ground. As her eyesight was dimming, she saw a person with a white mask on lift her up off the ground. An ambulance could be heard in the distance.

This was definitely going to put a damper on her vacation.

this is really short but I promise this is just setting up the book
