Alice was typing away on her computer at the Riverdale register when the bell above the door signaled that someone had walked in.
Her head shot up to look at the door and when she realized who it was, she threw a crumpled up piece of printer paper at Hal.
It bounced off his forehead and landed on the desk in front of him and he laughed.
"Yes, Alice?" He said, as he looked at her.
"Jana is here." Alice said with a smile.
Hal looked at her, confused.
"Jana Scott? Our divorce attorney?" Alice explained.
The young brunette stopped in front of Alice's desk and cocked her head to the side.
"Talking about me again, Alice Cooper?" She asked with a smile.
"Yeah, we've been waiting for these papers for two months, Jana. What's up with that?" Alice said with a chuckle, clearly joking with the younger woman.
Hal smiled at his wife and handed her a pen. The lawyer handed them a packet of papers.
"I marked the lines that I need you two to sign with an 'x'. This just states that Alice gets to keep the house, her car, and she gets half the profits made from this fine establishment. She also gets full physical custody of Betty. Hal, you get visitation. The second line, Alice, just explains that you have no claim to the blossom family fortune, which you both agreed to." Jana explained.
Hal paused for a moment and looked at Alice. She felt his eyes on her and she looked up at him.
"I'm failing to see how I benefit from this arrangement." Hal said to Alice. "I mean, seriously. I'm losing my wife, my home, my children. Half of my business. But great, I get to keep my family's money. I know I wasn't the best husband in the world, but there must have been a time where you did love me and you didn't want us to end like this. Wasn't there?"
Jana just stood there. This isn't the first time she had seen something like this.
Alice sighed and shook her head at him in disbelief. She put the pen down and leaned back in her chair. She then crossed her arms across her chest but kept her gaze on him.
"Yes, Hal. There was a time when I loved you and never wanted our marriage to end. I was proud to be your wife and have your name and carry your children. But then things changed. Almost as if you had figured that I wasn't going to go anywhere so it didn't matter how you treated me anymore. I got tired of pretending that I was this perfect Northside housewife with the perfect family and the perfect marriage and the perfect house, and I realized that I was done trying to make you love me again. I don't want to keep pretending to be someone I'm not. And being married to you and having the Cooper name requires a lot of pretending that I'm getting too old to continue."
"You're my wife, Alice. I want you for who you are. Don't pretend anymore, but let's not go through with this."
Before Alice could respond, the bell above the door signaled that someone new had walked in. The three people standing there turned their heads to the door.
Alice smiled at the man standing before her.
There stood FP Jones with a bouquet of roses and a milkshake from pops.
"Forsythe, what in the world are you doing here?" Alice said, taking the milkshake and throwing him a quick smile before taking a sip.
"Mmm, vanilla! My favorite!" Alice exclaimed.
He put the bouquet on her desk and as he walked closer to her, she stood on her tip toes to make herself tall enough to sit on the desk next to them. FP stood between her legs and put his hands on her thighs, rubbing them up and down.
