May 24th, 2018. Lake Minnetonka, MN, USA.
"You're finally here!" Came an all too familiar voice from behind Eva.
"What are you doing here," Eva asked as she closed the front door behind her before slowly turning to face the boy.
He had curly golden blonde hair and sea blue eyes. He was tall and lanky as he stood up.
"So you're back from outer space! And, I walk in to find you here with that sad look upon your face," Eva said as she looked at him with a pitiful grimace.
"I want to talk to you," The boy said as he put a hand on her shoulder.
She shoved his hand off before walking to the bench and setting her purse down and taking off her raincoat.
"I should've changed that damn lock, I should've made you leave that key. If I knew you'd be back to bother me," Eva said as she glanced back at him.
"Please, Eva! I love you!"
"Did you seriously think I'd crumble without you, Will? Do you really think I'd just lay down and wither away?" Eva asked in disbelief, "Just go, walk out the door! Turn around, Because you're not welcome here."
"I made a mistake! I need you! You need me..." Will pleaded.
"I'm not that chained-up little girl still in love with you. It took all the strength I had left, not to fall apart again. Trying to weld my broken heart back together. But, you felt like dropping by and just expected me to be free! I'm saving all my love for someone who actually loves me," Eva growled as she turned and walked down the hall, a cold hard anger burning in her chest.
"Eva, I've always loved you. Ever since you sat next to me during dinner," Will begged as he grabbed her hand.
By this time Eva was almost in tears as she looked back at him and said, "You had my heart in your palm. I would have stopped the sun if it meant you were truly in love with me."
"I do love you! Don't you see that? I was just a stupid boy that was too proud to admit that I love you,"
She stopped scanning his face for any fragment of the truth before shaking her head.
"You may love me. But that doesn't mean you are in love with me. You can love a toy but that doesn't mean you're in love with it. That's really all I am to you, a toy. But, you don't realize that a human heart is not something to be picked up and set down as you see fit! It hurts like fucking hell. And if you're truly in love with me then you would know that" Eva snarled before pulling her hand from his grip.
Instead of just walking away she punched him right in the nose. He quickly stepped back, his hand clutching his broken nose. Crimson blood dripped onto the floor from between his fingers.
"Oh my god," Eva said as she shook her hand out while backing away, "Bonnie! Bonnie come quick! Bring some towels!"
An old African American woman came walking in from the back kitchen. She was holding a dish towel, drying her hands with it as she took in the scene.
"Go get a bowl of ice for that hand baby girl," Bonnie ordered, seeing Eva's hand as she handed Will the towel, "Now why did she hit you?"
"Because she's a bitch!" Will growled and Bonnie hit him over the head.
"I won't tolerate any of that language boy! Now I'll have Mitch bring the car round, and he'll take you to the hospital," Bonnie said, shaking her head.
With that, she led Will out of the house to wait until Mitch drove up with the car. Hurriedly Bonnie went back into the mansion and went into the kitchen, sitting down at the wood table across from Eva. Eva's hand was in a tin bowl, filled with ice.
"Why'd you hit that boy?" Bonnie asked sternly as she leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms.
"Because he broke my heart and came crawling back," Eva replied as she took her hand from the ice and Bonnie took the bowl.
"You shouldn't hit people, baby girl. Even if they deserve is," The woman said as she sat back down.
"I know Bonnie, but what was I to do? He was saying I needed him when I don't," Eva remarked as she dried her hand.
"Well now, then you should have hit him harder!" Bonnie said with a smile as she leaned forward, "Now, let's get some ice cream and go sit out on the dock."
Eva nodded and got up as Bonnie got some mint ice cream from the freezer and Eva grabbed two bowls. They got their sundaes together before heading out to sit on the dock.
"You know, I've served three women of this house. Your Nanna, your mama, and now you. I don't think any of you didn't like mint ice cream," Bonnie said with a smile as she looked out over Lake Minnetonka.
"Ricci likes pistachio," Eva said with a disgusted look on her face.
"Well, Ricci has always been a strange child," She replied and they both laughed, "I've had to deal with him during the school year all by my lonesome now that you've graduated."
"I miss it here. I miss my Nanna's family," Eva said as she scooped some ice cream into her mouth.
"I miss your Nanna in general. She was a fine woman. After she married that Scotsman she moved all the way to the otherside of the Atlantic. But every summer they would come and stay. Then your mama went to school here at King Louis's and so did you and now your brother," Bonnie said as she put her arm around Eva.
"I'll still come visit you when I'm married," Eva said with a smile as she leaned against Bonnie.
"I'm sure you will. Otherwise, I'll have to fly my old bag of bones all the way over to you!" Bonnie said with a chuckle.
"Why didn't you and Tom have kids?" Eva asked after a few minutes of silence.
"Because I had my hands full with cooking, then raising your mama and by the time she was grown it was too late," Bonnie said with a sad sigh.
"Tato said he was intimidating,"
With that Bonnie let out a long hearty laugh,"My Tom was a bit intimidating on the outside. But, on the inside he had couldn't hurt a fly. He never raised his hand against anyone."
After eating their ice cream, Eva read while Bonnie made a quilt for Eva's cousin who was going to have a baby. They sat in comfortable silence while Ricci sat in the study working on Spanish homework.
Bonnie finally looked up at the clock and quickly set her work aside, "It's late! Both of you up to bed!"
Eva grabbed her phone checking the time before sighing and placing her bookmark in her place. Ricci had already jumped up, glad to have an excuse to stop working on school work. Bonnie ushered them upstairs to get ready and brush their teeth.
"You're parents didn't pay good money for your braces to come off and your teeth to be yellow! Brush for three minutes!" Bonnie told Ricci before going down the hall to check on Eva who was already in bed.
"Lights out, baby girl. Put the book away, it'll be there in the morning," Bonnie said when she found Eva sitting up reading.
"When I'm done with this chapter," Eva said not looking up.
"Fine, but no more after that!" Bonnie replied, kissing Eva's head before walking out.
After finishing that chapter Eva reluctantly set the book down and turned out the light. She drifted off to sleep while being curled up in old quilts that smelled like lavender and the detergent the laundry maids used.
Hey guys! New chapter! Can you guess how many citizenships Eva has? What about the country? Tell me what you think down below and please vote!
