Akemi

I hear him in my dreams.

His distorted crying and yelling making it virtually impossible for me to rest at all. I don't know why I have such vivid dreams of myself as an infant but I've never had a 'normal' dream in my entire life. They're always about the pink haired boy. Usually he's locked in his bedroom, sobbing and smashing his fists against the walls. Screaming in hopes to be let out soon. Although he never is.

Like every morning I wake with tears pouring from my eyes and my heart aching in pain for my brother. I've only met him once as an infant, and in that moment he was holding a blade to my chest. Despite those facts his cries for help never cease to bring tears to my eyes.

I woke before my parents, early enough to stop the dreams before they got worse. I hate sleeping and darkness, my sleep is always restless and the dark fills me with fear, therefore I wake as the sun does. I slowly made my way out of the overly decorated bedroom I was 'awarded' with when I was adopted thirteen years ago and into the common area. The sewn texture of the laboratory walls causing a shiver to run through my body.

"Akemi. You're awake." I heard a groggy voice mutter from behind me. I turned quickly on my heels, causing my light pink hair to brush against my face lightly. "Dad." I breathed, relieved it wasn't some stranger. "I'm sorry. Did I frighten you?" He questioned, twisting the bolt in his head until we both heard the click. "No." I shook my head, "Just surprised me a little. That's all." Franken nodded and sat down at his computer, turning in his chair to face me. "There's something I need to inform you of, but you may not like to hear it." He stated, his tone even more serious than usual. I raised an eyebrow in question, becoming a little nervous. "As you know, I am a teacher at the DWMA." He said, keeping his eyes trained on mine. I nodded, seemingly unable to find my voice. "Lord Death has given you an invitation of sorts to join the school. Today actually. It's an offer you can't turn down, Akemi. The Death Weapon Meister Academy will be a great place for you to attend a real school instead of learning basic things from your mother and I."

The DWMA!? He's got to be kidding! I can't go there! That school's amazing! All the students are probably really close to one another.. Oh no they'll make fun of my hair. Or maybe the fact that I'm not capable of becoming a meister. Why can't I turn down this opportunity? No one wants to be the new kid.

"Don't worry." He whispered, standing and walking toward me, placing his hand on my shoulder. "You won't be the only new student, today will be the first day to many. Your only difficult task will be to find a weapon." He smiled half heartedly at me. I'd never really seen this man smile, only when he looks at Marie does he even look remotely happy. I nod silently, ignoring the trembling in my hands. "You'll love it I assure you." He smiled, really smiled. I stared in awe at him for a few seconds before he broke the silence again. "You should get ready. We all have to be at the academy in an hour." I nod and smile weakly.

"R-right. Thank you for this." I mumbled as I turned away from him and headed back to my room.

After I'd showered and gotten myself dressed, I checked the time. "Akemi!!" I heard Marie call as I rushed out of my bedroom. "Don't you look adorable!" She exclaimed, looking over my outfit and hugging me tightly. "You're going to have such a great time and make so many new friends!!" She squealed, hugging me even tighter. "Thanks, mom. I'm sure I will." I lied. There's no way I'll meet anyone at this school. I just want to learn. Marie finally released me after a while and smiled brightly. "Alright! Lets get going then!!" She sighed, taking Stein's hand as I followed behind the two.

Shortly afterward we made it to the school, where I was given a tag labelled 'meister'. Several other students wore the same tag, some said the same as mine while others stated they were weapons. Everyone looked so comfortable here, I felt out of place as my entire body started to shake. I grabbed onto my arm in an attempt to steel myself for the day ahead as Stein and Marie both smiled down at me. "You'll have a great time! And we'll see you in a few hours. You have Stein's class first." Marie whispered to me just before she and Stein both left me, alone in a sea of strangers.
