Akemi
Class was over before I'd even had the chance to focus. I couldn't stop wondering why Stein didn't want Sun*Star to be my partner. What could she have done? "Hey, Akemi! How about we practice a little later?" Sun*Star asked as the bell marking the end of the day rang. I glanced from her to Stein who motioned me over. "Um.. Sure! I'll meet you outside in a few minutes alright?" I asked, tightening the hair tie holding my hair in a ponytail. "Alright! Sounds cool see ya then!" She giggled, jumping down from her seat and skipping toward the door.
I grabbed my bag quickly, trying to leave before the classroom emptied. "Akemi." Stein thundered as I walked past him. I winced and turned to him slowly. "You plan on practicing with Sun*Star?" He asked as he adjusted his glasses. "Yes. Do you have another secret reason I shouldn't?" I questioned, crossing my arms over my chest. Stein only shook his head. "No reason whatsoever. I just want to make sure you don't try soul resonance.." His emotionless voice trailed off as he looked away from me. "I'm not going to. Don't worry about me. I'll do as you ask, professor." I muttered, turning to leave again. "I'm going." I adjusted the strap of the bag hanging over my shoulder and sighed. "Alright. I'll see you when you're done." He stated, kicking off on the floor causing his chair to spin back to his desk.
I sighed and rolled my eyes as I walked toward the door. "I'm not going to settle for being a weak meister.." I muttered as I left the classroom and walked outside. "Kemi! C'mon!!" I heard Sun*Star call as soon as I got out of the building. She grabbed my hand and pulled me away from the academy. "Where exactly are we going?" I questioned as she dragged me down the stairs, running as fast as she could. "Well I used to practice in the woods with Black*Star but our soul wavelengths didn't match so we couldn't really do much. But It's really quiet and not many people know where it is so that's where we're going!" She said excitedly, picking up her speed. "Sun*Star!!" I yelled as I lurched forward, unable to keep up with her fast pace. "Hunh?" She turned to me just as I fell forward, her arms wrapping around my waist.
I gasped and looked up at her quickly, my face burning red and my eyes wide. "I-I'm s-sorry!" I stuttered as I scrambled backward. "Hey why ya so nervous? It's alright!" She smiled, reaching down and picking up my book, handing it back to me. "Did you see that!? HAH if I hadn't been there you would've been really hurt!!" She exclaimed, pointing at me for emphasis. I laughed slightly and nodded. "Thank you, Sun*Star." I giggled, putting my book in my bag. "No problem! Weapons are supposed to protect their meisters right! And look at me! We haven't even started fighting yet and I'm already saving you!!" She yelled, putting her hands behind her head as she started walking ahead of me. I clasped my hands together behind my back and followed behind her.
When we got to a clearing in the woods she turned back to me. "Lets do this!!!" She yelled as her arm turned into the blade of her scythe. She held out her hand and when I grabbed it she turned herself completely into weapon form. The blade of the scythe I now held in my hands was bright green with silver triangles along the edges. "Let's see if we can resonate!!" She exclaimed, her voice sounded as if it were coming through a telephone. "Uh.. I dunno.." I trailed off, even though I was angry at Stein he's usually right..
Luckily, Sun*Star was cut off before she could counter. A scream erupted from the woods ahead of us. "What was that?" I asked, looking around our area. "I dunno! Use your soul track thingie." Sun*Star muttered. "I don't even know if I have that!!" I exclaimed, getting a little frustrated at my own lack of ability. "Just focus. Close your eyes and try to focus on a soul." She whispered, her voice much quieter than usual. I sighed and nodded, closing my eyes tightly and tuning out my surroundings.
In the darkness behind my eyelids I saw a bright red soul, presumably a Kishins. "It's a Kishin." I murmured, keeping my eyes closed. "We have to go after it!" She yelled, "C'mon, Kemi this could be my first soul!!" She squealed in excitement. I wanted to walk away, to leave the Kishin to it's own business and not get involved but I knew I had to do this. I had to make Sun*Star a death scythe and prove Stein wrong. Before I'd noticed it my legs were moving and I was rushing off in the direction of the kishin. "YEAH!!" Sun*Star yelled. "Shhh." I whispered as we drew closer to our opponent. "Oh right! Sorry!" She yelled, not quieting her voice at all and drawing a small sigh from my lips.
"Kemi, I don't see any Kishin around here.. Are you sure you really-" Her voice cut off with a loud gasp as the Kishin crashed in front of us. "YEAH!! Now we're talkin!!!" She exclaimed as the creature growled at us. "Alright. I guess we're doing this.." I mumbled, my hands shaking a little. "Hey, you've got this, Akemi. No reason to worry okay? You're gonna be a great meister starting now!!" She soothed. I nodded slowly, tightening my grip around the cold metal and exhaling sharply. Our opponent swung at me, throwing it's claws around sloppily as I dodged all the attacks. "You're doing great!" Sun*Star praised with a big smile on her face. I smiled a little and gathered my courage, lunging forward and striking the Kishin. The creature fell to the ground for only a short time and stood again, making its attacks more precise this time.
The Kishin swung at me, throwing me back against a tree at full force. I gasped quietly, trying to regulate my breathing again. "You okay?" Sun*Star asked, slightly worried. "Fine." I stated, standing up again, this time even more determined to win against this thing. I rushed toward the monster, my feet digging into the dirt as I swung Sun*Star in a circle, hitting the creature, causing an agonized cry to irrupted from the kishin's throat. The much larger opponent fell to the ground and Sun*Star turned back into her human form. "Is it over?" I asked, walking dangerously close to the monster.
"Akemi!!" Sun*Star shrieked, pushing me down to the ground and covering my body with her own. She screamed in pain as the Kishin's claws sliced through her skin. "Sun*Star!" I gasped, grabbing both of her arms and running as fast as I could away from the monster. Defeating a Kishin wasn't as important as saving her.
When we got out of the woods I stopped running. "Are you okay!?" I asked frantically, forcing her limp body to face me. "F-fine.." She muttered, her eyelids fluttering closed and back open again. I looked her over, the blood seemed to be pouring from her side. I lifted her shirt slightly, the cut started at her left hip and carried down her leg and ended at a spot I couldn't see. "We have to get you to my dad." I whispered frantically, grabbing her hand again and rushing back toward the school. "Ak-Akemi, I'm fine... We could've.. We could've finished it off.." She mumbled, leaning her head against my shoulder. "No we couldn't and you know it. You'll be okay I promise. I'm gonna get you h-help." I stuttered, my eyes filling with tears.
Why are you crying you, baby!? You don't even know this girl! You're such a wimp you'll never be a good meister crying over strangers like that.
I heard someone yell at me. "Hunh?" I looked around, confusedly, finding no one so I just ignored it. I ran faster, bounding up the stairs to the school and down the hallway into my father's classroom. "Dad!!" I screamed, crying harder. "What is it, Akemi!?" He asked frantically, his voice shaking. Had he really just shown emotion? "Y-you've gotta help!!" I sobbed, looking back at Sun*Star. He sighed softly, taking her from my arms. "I'll take care if it." He murmured, his voice returning to it's usual emotionless state.
He carried her limp form out of the room and down the hallway to the nurses office. He laid her down on the bed and quickly returned to me. "The cut looks to be pretty deep. I'll try to stitch it up but in the meantime you wait out here." His indifferent eyes infuriated me. Here was a girl bleeding out and he hardly even cared enough to help her. "Fine." I grumbled, "But you better make sure she's okay." I crossed my arms and leaned back against the wall as he closed the door again.
I heard footsteps thundering toward the room but I didn't care enough to look up until I was spoken to.
"What the hell happened do to my sister!?"
