This is a book from Shayne's point of view. I don't plan to change that, but if it does, I will make sure it's clear.
It is inspired by two ABBA songs.
S.O.S is Shayne's song, and The Winner Takes It All is Courtney's. If you haven't listened to these songs, check them out.
(But who hasn't right?)
There is one chapter that will have the lyrics in it, and it will be called one of the songs.
Let's go!!
My name is Shayne Topp. I have a steady job at a comedy YouTube channel, great friends, and I'm in a relationship with a beautiful girl. So life is pretty good right now.
One day, I come home to see my girlfriend after a long day of filming.
I unlock the door, calling out to her. "Kris! I'm home!"
No answer.
Maybe she isn't here.
She probably went to the shops or something. I do recall her telling me we need more dish soap. I shrug to myself, walking into the kitchen, dropping my bag on the floor in the process.
I glance over at the counter casually, seeing that Kristen's bag is still there.
Maybe she just forgot to bring it?I pull my phone out of my pocket, calling her. Her sweet voice comes through the phone to me. 'Hi, you've reached Kristen Everdale, I'm sorry I can't come to the phone right now, but you can leave a message after the beep and I'll get right back to you, my number is 0-' I hang up. She has obviously taken her phone with her. She'll be home soon. I am content with my theory, so I continue scrolling through my phone.
I am about to open Twitter, when I hear a panicked whisper from the other room. "Oh shit!"
I frown, my shoes making a light creaking noise on the cheap floorboards of our apartment as I creep towards the sound. I am already suspicious.
I throw Kristen's bedroom door open, seeing her in the bed. It is dark, so I snap the light on. I see her blink rapidly, her eyes trying to adjust to the sudden change in lighting. She smiles, showing her perfect white teeth as she throws her long brown hair over her shoulder. "Oh, hey babe. Didn't expect you to be home so early."
I don't return the smile. "I'm not early. I always come home at this time."
I draw my hand away from the light switch. "Also, I just called you. Why didn't you pick up?"
She smiles again, and for some reason I feel annoyed. I'm surprised at myself. Normally I love to see her smile. "I don't know where my phone is, sweetie. I've been looking for it for about an hour." She glances around innocently. My eyes dart down to her bedside table, where her phone is clearly sitting. "Oh, that reminds me," I begin sarcastically. "when I loose my phone, I normally strip down to my underwear and have a quick nap." I walk over to her phone, picking it up and clicking the home button to turn it on. I raise my eyebrows.
One missed call: Shayne
I check the ringer, seeing it on silent. "You never have your phone on silent." I say quietly.
She smiles again, nervously twisting the quilt in her hands. "Yes I do. W-when I'm sleeping I do.""I thought you couldn't find your phone."
She doesn't answer. "I just want to say Kristen, this was a very half thought out plan. If you really don't want to be with me anymore, you should've just said so." I tell her sincerely. "I really did think you were better than this."Kristen opens and closes her mouth like a fish out of water, before finally being able to speak. "Shayne, it's not what you think, I love you. I won't do it again, I promise!" A tear ran down her face, and for a moment I feel compelled to stay with her. I really do still love her.
I sigh heavily. I know I must make the right decision. "I'm sorry. You should've thought about that before you hooked up with someone else. If you really love me, why would you hurt me like this?" She breaks eye contact with me. " I think it's time for you to leave. It's over Kristen."
Her eyes fill with tears, and she taps someone beside her. A shock of black hair peeks out of the white sheets, and soon a man's face appears. My mouth drops open in shock. "Is this your ex? The one you were telling me about? Bryan?"
Kristen's face is pale. "We're just going to leave. Come on, Bryan."I walk out of the room, and they both emerge minutes later. I shake my head. "I'm sorry it had to end like this. You can come get your stuff on Saturday." I reach into her bag, pulling out the her keys to the apartment. "I'll be home, so you won't be needing these." I pass the bag to her, and she snatches it away silently. She slips her shoes on, clasping the hand of Bryan. He opens the door, and they both leave.
I stumble over to my couch, shocked at how calmly I had handled that situation.
I close my eyes, inhaling deeply.
I can't believe I had thought she was the one....
