A daily devotional for your time alone with God. In an increasingly dark world, more than ever, we need to look beyond what we can see, past our present circumstances. In order to see the light and experience life as our Heavenly Father intended, I...
Have you ever considered where we get the desire to bring order to our lives and our possessions? There is quite a push in home decorating to "declutter" and organise, in fact it's seen as being very beneficial for mental health too! Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that we are children of a Heavenly Father, who created the world using systematic design, taking an earth which was formless and empty, even chaotic and void —until He spoke and order was created!
Read and imagine the Creator at work:
"Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth." "And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. God called the space "sky." And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day. Then God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear." Andthat is what happened. God called the dry ground "land" and the waters "seas." And Godsaw that it was good. Then God said, "Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came." And that is what happened. The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the third day. Then God said, "Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth." And that iswhat happened. God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day." Genesis 1:6-19 NLT God spoke ....He made ....it happened .....and He saw that it was good! Sounds a lot like the way we organise a makeover! We talk about doing it then make it happen and when it is complete, we stand back and look at the finished result, declaring how good it looks. What a before and after story those first four days were! In Psalm 19, David declares how Creation displays God's awesome handiwork:
"The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world....". Psalms 19:1-4 NLT
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for the way Creation points us to You, the Maker! We see You as we survey the beauty of the sky, the land and the sea —We praise You for making it all! Thank You for every incredible plant You created and for the presence of the sun, moon and stars. Your detail and order in the creative process can be seen so clearly in all that You have made.
Lord we see a little of ourselves in You our Heavenly Father, whenever we embark on creative endeavours and go through that familiar process of speaking, making it happen then evaluating the end result. The difference is that sometimes when we make things or redecorate, we don't get it right and we can't say it looks good! In contrast, You are perfect and so everything you made was good and still is!
Help us to appreciate the work of Your hands, even in the busyness of the day ahead. May we remember that You hold in Your hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. The sea belongs to You, for You made it. Your hands formed the dry land, too. (Psalm 95:4-5) May we marvel at each detail of nature, with hearts and voices full of praise for You!
All glory and honour to Your Name, Amen.
