"STEVEN! GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE NOW!" I groaned as I heard the dreadful yell from my step-dad.
I looked at my clock and it read 11:09. I figured i had enough to deal with today already, so i grabbed my jacket and opened up my window.
"STEVEN!! DID YOU HEAR ME?!! HURRY THE HELL UP!!" By now, I could hear him stomping up the stairs.
I was out the window and ready to climb down, but I closed the window so he'd think I was never home. I finally reached ground level and made my way towards the singing crickets and growls of the main road. I walked down and entered a Circle K gas station and bought myself a hotdog and a drink.
"What are you doing out this late, kid?" The cashier said with his croaky voice.
"Just buying some dinner.." I said trying not to make eye contact.
"Not a very good dinner, kid. This all you got enough for?"
"Um, yeah. I have to save some money if i want more tommorrow.."
"Wait here a sec..." The cashier walked away from the register and came back with a pre-made sandwich, bag of chips, and a bottle of soda. "This should be enough to settle you."
I stared at the food and my stomach growled.. "I don't have enough for all this."
"I know you don't..." The cashier pulled out his wallet and paid for everything, including my hot dog and drink..
"Thank you, I'll find a way to pay you back. I promise." I looked down at his nametag. Gary. I need to remember this.
"That won't be necessary , kid. Now go on and enjoy your food. I thanked him again and walked out of the store. I made my way towards the small lake and sat on a picnic table. I ate most of the food and only had a couple chunks of bread left. I decided since I wasn't going to eat them, I'd leave them by the water for one of the ducks to eat.
It was barely going to be 12 and I didn't plan on returning home until tomorrow. So i just walked. I didn't know where i was going, I just walked. I ended up by the school and decided to go on further, since I didn't want to think of this place for a while. I sat down at a bus stop because my bruises were hurting. I lifted up my shirt and looked down at them. They looked darker and more swollen. I just brushed it off and decided to sit there for a while. There were a couple people out for the time of night and looked at me weird. I would look at me weird too since I'm a teenager sitting at a bus stop in the middle of the night.
I sat for about 30 minutes and I finally decided I should sneak back into my room for the night.
*20 minutes later*
I peeked inside the living room window and I saw Josh lying on the couch with at least 20 empty cans of beer lying in a pile near the couch. Same as usual.. I started making my way up the old tree, that has stood strong for so many years, and crawled through the entry to hell..- i mean my house. I silently crept across the floor of my bedroom and out into the hallway so i could grab a towel from the cabinet and shower.
"Manny!" I heard Josh's horrid voice. "Come down here right now!! .. And hurry!"
I heard slight fidgeting with a doorknob down the hall so i had no choice but to climb inside of the small storage space. I closed the door behind and listened along to their converstation as quietly as i could.
"You hid that bag of watches and other shit Stevens mom left behind right?" Josh questioned.
"Yeah, dad. I put it in Isaiahs backyard, don't worry, nobody will find out." Manny said yawning.
"Who the hell's Isaiah?!" Josh snapped.
"Mine and Evans friend dad calm down." He defended himself.
Isaiah. That name sounded familiar...
Manny countinued, "He beat the shit out of Steven after the funeral. Thats why he came home with that busted lip and bruised head."
Josh stood there nodding his head, while he recalled the memory. "Okay. Now you go back on upstairs, I'll call the cops and tell 'em Stevie boy stole our 'beloved' family jewels." They both laughed.
As soon as i heard two doors shut closed, I jumped out of the closet. I closed my door to my room and slid to the floor. The cops can't possibly believe anything that come's out of Josh's mouth... Can they? Worry filled my thoughts as I paced around my bedroom..
*30 minutes later*
I came out of the bathroom rubbing my head with a towel, in hopes of it getting dry enough, since there wasn't any sunlight out to help dry it. But there will be soon.. And if Josh was going to blame me for stealing, then i might as well take a few things. A wide grin crept across my face. I liked this idea. I packed my backpack with a couple pairs of clothes and other necessary things. I slipped on some clothes and I brought out my dufflebag and stuffed in a small blanket, two pairs of shoes, and headed out of my room to take what I wanted. I grabbed a couple things like a Josh's laptop, his wallet, an iHome, and Manny's personal favorite. His PRS Mira Electric Guitar. I headed out the door and decided to stop by Isaiahs house-well, his backyard..
I hopped the fence, and looked around to where they buried the bag. Boom.
I found it. I dug it up and threw it in the bag. The Pawn Shop will pay a good amount of money for these things without a doubt. Im set. Now I just wait a couple hours, sell, and head as faraway from this washed up town as I can manage.
