bullets

have you ever thought about what it feels, hiding inside a classroom, fearing death? i've never been in that situation, and hopefully i will never encounter it. however, considering all the events in present day, that thought, those possibilities, have all ran through my head too many times for me to let it go.

it's kind of sad that such a beautiful world is filled with some monsters who gave up seeking help and instead turned to violence and committed the greatest sins.

we're the generation conquered by fear,
when we hear bullets, we hide behind chairs.
fight or flight, depending on where we are,
we can all hear the sirens and the cars.

we hide with prayers and hope against fate,
wishing that we ditched class just for this date.
we hear bullets and we pray that they'll miss,
...but what do we really know about this?

guns were invented centuries ago,
made by brilliant men, as we've been told.
the fight for equality - what has changed?

gatling's invention, in our world ingrained.

then two cleveland elementary schools,
two perpetrators who chose to break rules,
and then the two teens from columbine high,
two bombs they planted, and bullets would fly.

bomb threats and gun threats, are schools really safe?
and in the end, can our futures be saved?
after the madman's rampage had ended,
is there anything that can be mended?

we are the sheep and rabbits of this earth,
seeking comfort nearby the bloodstained hearth.
watching as lives burn up into ashes,
watching those hopes and dreams start their crashes.

and we'll spend the rest of our lives haunted,
peace, hope, dreams - everything that we wanted,
they'll slip through our fingers like grains of sand,
and upon that red-stained ground they will land.

helpless and hopeless, our hearts are all bound,
terrified and screaming at that one sound.

maybe on day we'll learn and move past this,

but for now we can only hope that they'll miss.

sorry, the formatting got kinda fucked up by wattpad. it's supposed to come out as eight stanzas with four lines each. i've edited this thrice and i'm kinda sick of trying to fix it.
