Sephiroth led the way in once he opened the door. Inside appeared to look like a makeshift laboratory, with three tanks like the one Zack and Sera had found back at the Banora factory where they had encountered Genesis, located at several places around the room, a power generator, a few desks and even an examination table that appeared to be used as a bed. There were even some writings that they could see scrawled all over the floor.

As the three of them made their way down to the laboratory, Sephiroth moved to glance into one of the tanks and scowled deeply. "What a wretched sight..." He moved from the tank, picking up some of the papers to read. Sera moved to take a look into the tank that Sephiroth had glanced at, and was disgusted. There was a monster inside, submerged within the tank full of green liquid and it had Angeal's face on it.

"These are...highly confidential research documents that Hollander stole," Sephiroth announced as he read over the papers. "The stolen documents were in regard to 'Project G,' 'Degradation,' and 'Ancients.'"

Sera looked up at the word 'Ancients,' recalling what Hojo had called her when she walked away from him, and the rumors about her lineage. She proceeded to look over the papers as well, going over to the one that was sitting on top of the power generator and read through them.

It is now an undisputed fact that the life form excavated from the earth is indeed of the ancient race spoken of in legend.

Furthermore, history records that these "Ancients" channeled the power of this planet to tear the earth asunder.

She shivered slightly at the words written in the documents. These "Ancients" that Shinra has been researching on had powers that could tear the planet apart. And they believe that she was from that line? Sure, Sera can cast magic without needing any materia whatsoever, but she doubted she was even half as powerful as the Ancients recorded in legends if what was written in this document was true. 'And they said they excavated one? From the earth?' Sera really hoped that Hollander or any of Shinra's scientists don't try to tamper with that kind of power.

It would be a disaster waiting to happen.

She continued to read further.

Using the cells of the unearthed Ancient, we have begun research on creating and mass-producing a race with comparable abilities.

The primary objective of this research is to significantly reduce mako excavation costs.

'This must be how the SOLDIER program began,' Sera concluded seeing the report had been dated back to thirty years ago. 'They injected these cells along with the Mako into our bodies which gives us our enhancements.' The thought of having cells of a fossilized mummy within her was rather disturbing, but she could not deny that the enhancements brought with it had saved her life many times. She wondered if it also gave her the ability to cast magic without materia, only to deny it as she had already had that ability before she was recruited into the program.

'Still... why does this fill me with a sense of alarm?' 

"I'm feeling woozy..." Sera heard Zack commented, and she turned to see Zack holding his forehead, looking a bit green from reading the reports and she went over to him, picking up the report that was on the control panel that was by another tank at the other end of the room and started to read through it.

Report on the SOLDIER Degradation Phenomenon

The heightened abilities of SOLDIER members are maintained by a delicate balance of various genetic factors.

A change in this balance could only be caused by a "leak" of genetic information, but this is not possible under normal circumstances.

This phenomenon is unique to the SOLDIER Type G.
