As bad as the night of the party was, it was absolutely nothing compared to Monday of that week. I had been dreading it the entire weekend.
I woke up with a huge headache that morning. I rolled out of bed and made my way to the kitchen where I found Jaime. He was pouring himself a bowl of cereal when I walked in. He glanced up.
"Hey, Andy…" he murmured. "Uh… how're you feeling?"
After grabbing a bowl from the pantry, I collapsed into one of the chairs surrounding our table. "Friggen peachy. How do you think I'm feeling?" I spat.
Jaime nodded sympathetically, which surprised me. Sympathy wasn't something my brother did too well. "That bad, huh?" He sounded guilty. Good. He deserved to feel guilty.
"Yes, that bad. No thanks to you and your jackass-basketball-team."
Jaime glanced up at me from over his breakfast. His jaw fell open. "Woah, woah, woah! You don't think I had anything to do with this, right?
"Of course I do. You're on the basketball team, aren't you? And Seth is your best friend."
"I found out Friday night; same as you!"
"Yeah, okay," I mumbled sarcastically. I got up and took my bowl back to the pantry. I wasn't hungry anyway.
"No, seriously, Andy! I had no clue!" Jaime left his breakfast on the table and followed me over to the stairs.
"You're with the team twenty-four-seven! I'm pretty sure if they were planning a "let's mess with the new chick" bet, you'd hear about it."
"Andy! Andy, quit walking away, would you?" Jaime yelled from the bottom of the stairs. "Hey!"
He was starting to sound slightly pissed off. I rolled my eyes and turned around, glaring at him from the top step. "What?"
"C'mon. You think I wouldn't stop them if I knew they were doing something like that? I mean, yeah, you're a dork, but I'm not that heartless. You're my sister."
I raised an eyebrow as I searched Jaime's face for any trace of dishonesty. It was always pretty simple for me to figure out whether he was lying or not. He was my twin, after all.
"Swear you didn't know about this bet?" I asked.
Jaime nodded. "Yeah, I swear. They didn't say a word about it around me. Or I would have told you. Honest."
I took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah. Alright," I muttered.
So my brother had been forgiven. His best friend, however, was a completely different story.
"Hear what happened at Chase Meyer's party?"
"Didn't the new girl get dumped by Seth McPierce?"
"Andy Crowley? Were they ever even together?"
"Wasn't she part of that bet with the basketball team?"
"I saw her go upstairs with Seth… They didn't come down for a while."
"I heard Chase walked in on Jaime Crowley's sister and Seth McPierce…"
