"Tch, look at this, injured already. I told you she was no good... she won't be any better than-"
"Karkor, we do not speak of that!"
"Ariyon... I am sorry, but it is not something any of us shall easily forget." Murmured Karkor softly.
"Yes." Ariyon replied, sounding tense "but it is still not to be mentioned, wherever possible. Now leave, before the girl wakes."
Hayley heard a snort, and something that sounded like someone making a revolted sound at the back of their throat. "Are you sure we cannot-" began Karkor, but he was cut off by Ariyon.
"No, Karkor, you already know the answer to that! Now leave! And while you're at it, learn to keep your emotions in check."
"Yes, Ariyon. I am just... disgusted by even the very sight of-"
"Karkor!" Ariyon practically roared.
Hayley heard a low sound, like a growl, then the sound of muffled footsteps walking away.
She heard someone - Ariyon, she supposed - sigh. "You can open your eyes now, I know you're awake." Said Ariyon, sounding like they were trying not to sound annoyed. Reluctantly, Hayley opened her eyes. Instantly, she was blinded by how white everything was. Her first thought was that she was in a hospital, but that thought was eliminated the second her eyes adjusted.
She was on something soft, a bit like a bed, but it felt, well, kind of not there, like sitting on a bunch of cotton.
It was almost like sitting on a cloud. Hayley looked down, but it was like mist was surrounding her; she couldn't even see the ground through it. Wondering where she was, Hayley looked around, feeling slightly scared. At first, she saw no-one, but at a second glance, there was something moving amongst the mist.
"Hayley. It is likely you have many questions, but now is not the time. As for where you are, and I know you are wondering, you are nowhere. This place knows no time, no age. No colour, no thing, dead or alive... except us, right now. Not many can come here. You are one of the few to experience this world of nothing."
Hayley shuddered. She didn't like this place; this was a strange dream to be having, and it seemed too real... why did these voices keep appearing in her dreams? Her thoughts were stopped short as the figure amongst the mist came forward. Okay, this was definitely a dream. A creature she had always admired, an arctic fox, stepped forward, watching her intently. She looked around again quickly. There was no-one else here; surely it was not the fox speaking?
The fox's gaze was intimidating, but Hayley refused to look away. It was just a dream. Nothing more.
The fox made an annoyed sound.
"Hayley, I am Aryion. I have something important to tell you." The fox, no, Ariyon's mouth was not moving, but she was sure that it was the one talking now.
"Why..? What..? How..?" Hayley breathed, in total awe and fear now. This dream was too real... it was scary.
"Yesterday, you died."
Hayley's breathing hitched, and for a moment the whiteness around her spun, threatening to give way to darkness. She could not have died yesterday; she was here, now, alive... wasn't she? Was this heaven or something? Pretty crappy heaven, there was nothing here. But truthfully, the incident from yesterday had been on her mind all day... she had died, or should have. She had felt the blood, the pain... but then come out of it without a scratch. How?
"But, you were brought back to life." Hayley made a choking sound, and began laughing hysterically. She did not find this funny at all, in fact she was scared to the point of hysterics and her breathing was irregular and fast. Ariyon paused, seeming to give her time to calm down, but did not seem to register her laugh.
