The next day, Brigid and the twins met up in the common room. Brigid was already dressed in her uniform for the day. In an attempt to keep her messy hair at bay, she adorned her hair with a couple of bright red barrettes.
"Ready to start the day?" Brigid asked the boys, who both bore sleepy eyes. Fred stood barely awake and George let out a loud yawn. "Guess that answers that question."
Brigid led the tired twins down to the Great Hall to have breakfast. The twins were hardly morning people-- and neither was Brigid, for that matter-- but it seemed that the rest of the castle was buzzing about the start of the year. She saw several students milling about, some sitting down for toast and comparing timetables, while others-- mostly first years-- studied maps to figure out where all the classes were.
Hogwarts was extremely difficult to navigate if you weren't a professor or a ghost. But thanks to a secret map that the twins owned, Fred, George, and Brigid knew all the secret passageways around the castle by heart. The best part was that they could always tell when Filch was out and about. The map was the secret to the trio's success.
McGonagall handed the students their timetables as soon as they sat down. They wasted no time comparing.
"Surprised you're not taking advanced classes," Fred commented as he looked from his schedule to Brigid's.
"I asked, but they wouldn't let me until I take my O.W.L.s. McGonagall said I could take an extra class if I wanted, but I declined. I didn't want more work."
"But wouldn't advanced classes be more work?"
"No, it'd just be harder work."
George scrunched his eyebrows together. "The only class we don't have together is our elective."
"You're doing Ancient Runes?"
"I wasn't interested in the other subjects," Brigid shrugged.
"Surprised you're not doing arithmancy."
"I wanted to do advanced classes, not cry. Anyway, Arithmancy is just Divination for people who like math."
"Hey guys," came Lee's voice as he took a seat next to Brigid.
"Hey, Lee," the three of them greeted in unison.
"You guys are so creepy when you do that," he said, giving them all a weird look.
"Mr. Jordan," McGonagall said, as she handed Lee his schedule.
"Let's see it then," said Brigid. They compared their timetables to Lee's.
"Aw," Brigid complained. "All you guys chose Care for Magical Creatures?"
"It's easy," said Lee with a shrug.
"It's kinda boring," Bridgid muttered.
Fred looked down at his wristwatch. "Hey, we better get going. We'll be late to Herbology."
"Since when have you ever worried about being late to Herbology?"
"Since I found out that Professor Sprout has some particularly nasty Swinging Cacti. And I'd hate to be the first to meet them."
Brigid nodded in understanding and shoved the rest of her toast into her mouth.
"Attractive," Lee commented.
"Thanks, buddy."
The four of them gathered up their bags and headed outside and down the hill toward the greenhouses. As the class found their seats, Brigid set down her bag. Coincidentally, a Dungbomb she had shoved in there rolled out and underneath a Slytherin Girl's stool. The bomb went off right underneath her, causing the girl to fly off her stool.
