(It wouldn't let me put the mood board in the text. ): )

Hawkins was a dreary town, with sleepy and quiet streets and the weather mirrored the town's character with clouds that blanketed the shine of the sun.

The fresh air nipped at the skin of Nina's legs as her cheer uniform left much uncovered, goosebumps rising on exposed flesh. She tugged at the sweater covering her arms and torso, wrapping herself tighter in the dark green knit as she pushed her legs to carry her quicker towards the highschool. She huffed out the cool air, strands of black hair falling to curtain her face as the chunky white sneakers crunched against the gravel of the road. As she strode the satchel of books and supplies rustled.

In the distance the roar of a car engine, paired with blaring rock music could be heard fast approaching. Nina tried to avoid looking behind her at the source of the sound but as the sound sped closer her curiosity rose.

Billy felt his heartbeat thunder through his head, gripping the steering wheel of his electric blue Camaro till his knuckles turned white. Max yelped over the radio as they neared the stranger walking on the road.

"Billy! Slow down!" The redhead screamed at her stepbrother as she gripped the leather seat beneath her.

He was unresponsive to her pleas and pressed his foot further down on pedal, the car jolted forward and the engines roars became deafening. He turned to face his sister, his stepsister, eyes glossy with manic and a grin baring his white teeth.

"Is this your friend, Max?" He questioned in a lowly voice, his eyes trained on her rather than the road ahead.

"No Billy! I don't- I don't know her!" She stuttered out as her eyes flickered from her brother to the girls figure ahead.

"Don't mind if I hit her then?" He questioned the younger girl again as his eyes flickered back to the stranger ahead of the car. He took in her character, starting from the dark messy hair, her deep green sweater that flooded her figure, the brown leather paint-splatter satchel that was slung over her shoulder and the short pleated skirt that left her legs uncovered for his eyes to devour.

"Hey?!" He turned to look back at Max, prying to get an answer out of the redhead. Max was frozen in horror, truly believing the Monster would hit the girl ahead. Max watched with fearful eyes, unable to move her hands to cover them.

Nina finally turned to face the roaring sound, peering over her shoulder before freezing in shock at the blue car in motion towards her. Her breath hitched and she stumbled backwards. The heel of her sneaker catching on the ledge of the sidewalk, she fell onto the cool pavement, landing on her thighs with her satchel clutched in her lap. Nina looked up through the strand of hair that the wind her swept to her face.

Max stared down at the girl from the open window of Billy's Camaro, her eyes screaming an apology as the car continued to zoom down the gravel road towards the approaching school building.

A shaky breath left Nina's parted lips and she pushed herself from the cool sidewalk with a trembling hand. As quickly as the Blue Camaro had flashed before her eyes, it roared into the distance, halting to a screeching stop to pull into the carpark of the highschool.

"What a freaking douche." Another car had pulled up beside the frozen girl, this time it's motive was not to barrel Nina over in cold-blooded murder.

"Get in, Nina! It's the first day back and I want a good parking spot!" The shrill voice of her close friend Claire called out to her as she pushed the car door open with an olive hand. Nina's face soften with a smile and she sunk into the passenger seat. She looked over to her friend, Claire was a girl with deep skin, and a short curly bob that was pinned away from her face with assorted clips. Claire peered through the frames that sat on the end of her cute button nose. Claire's car jolted forward upon the road and Nina let out a thankful sigh.

"I've really got to take you up on your 'ride to school and back' offers..." Nina mumbled to her friend over the soft radio. Her friend laughed in return.

"That's only if you don't want to get murdered." Claire joked about the previous incident but the memory left a sour taste in Nina's mouth. Nina shook the thoughts from her head, trying to not ruin the mood of her friend.

"And if I can put up with you being late all the time." Nina shot back to her friend, who was notoriously late to everything and anything.

"Well... I did get you and I to school on time today, thank you muchly." Claire said with pride as she pulled into a vacant parking space. Her old car spluttered to a stop and she pulled the keys from the ignition.

The girls climbed from the car, Nina clutched the strap of the satchel that was slung over her shoulder and brushed her dark strands of hair behind her ears. Students littered the parking lot of the school, leaning against cars and mingling. A familiar big-haired male perked at the sight of Nina and Claire, his lanky arm extended to wave before pacing towards them across the asphalt.

"Welcome back, my ladies!" Steve exclaimed as he held out his arms as an invitation for the pair to hold. Nina let a giggle slip from her lips as she linked arms with her friends but her mind wandered from the gossip that Claire and Steve droned on about. She couldn't help but notice how other students stopped in their tracks to stare, the obnoxious girls left gawking with jaws ajar and boys were scoffing with furrowed brows.

Nina's white sneakers stopped as she turned to follow the gaze of her classmates, the deadweight of Nina's arm caused Steve and Claire to halt walking, and their conversations too. Her nose scrunched in disgust as her eyes landed on the target of everyones stares. He leaned against the blue Camaro that was imprinted fresh in her memories. He scowled as he locked stares with Nina, she seemed frozen under the intense observance of his blue eyes. A cigarette was gingerly placed his lips, he removed it with two fingers to let the smoke drift from his mouth.

He smirked at Nina's expression, he vaguely remembered her from the incident of this morning, and found her gaze amusing. He thrived off the attention, not just from her but the population of girls at Hawkins High. He flicked the cigarette onto the asphalt, which was soon stomped on by a heavy leather boot.

"You don't wanna know him.." Steve muttered as he tugged on Nina's arm urging her to turn away from the newest male of the school. Steve didn't yet know who the figure was, but the depths of his stomach told him that he was bad news. Or perhaps it was the jealously that rose from how he looked at Nina as if he was about to devour her whole didn't settle right in his mind. Steve shook his head from the thoughts physically and mentally as he continued to lead the pair of girls through the doors of the school.
