At home, Laura had just finished drying her hair and was busy still getting everything ready. She rushed around and tried to make sure everything was just perfect, yet she felt as though there was so much more she could do to impress her husband.
She heard Rob opening the garage, and immediately jumped. He was home early. She started rushing around, hoping everything would look okay.
"Honey I'm home!" Rob yelled from the kitchen. He walked into the living room and embraced Laura. They kissed.
"Hi darling. Didn't expect you to be home so early."
"Alan gave me the day off after he liked the sketch I wrote."
"Oh Rob that's wonderful...but doesn't that seem a bit too generous?"
"Now that you mention it, it kind of does. Something must be up."
"Let's not worry about that now let's worry about dinner."
"Ooh what are we having?"
"Well I figured we could have Chinese food."
"Alright. Where's Rich?"
"In his room doing his homework."
"I sure hope Rich doesn't hear us tonight."
"Me too."
Rob took off his jacket and sat on the couch. He picked up the tv remote and started flipping through channels. With time off from work, he could watch the Twilo marathon.
"Oh Rob, could you please turn that off? You know how much it scared the both of us last time, and I haven't gotten walnuts in weeks because of how scarred we are!" Laura whined.
"Oh honey, now we know it isn't real," Rob said as he opened his arms, inviting her to come and sit with him.
"I can't Rob, they'll be here any minute with the food."
Rob stuck his tongue out at her and turned his head back to the movie, watching Danny Thomas throw walnuts at people. He chuckled as he remembered his ridiculous dream, especially the part where Laura falls out of the closet on top of a bunch of walnuts.
The doorbell rang. Their food was there and Laura paid, taking the food and gesturing for Rob to follow her to the table and eat.
"Oh Rob! Look!" Laura screamed.
"What's happened?"
"The containers of food are completely empty!"
"What?"
"The delivery person must've ate the food!"
"Let me see."
Rob scanned the empty containers of food and picked up a carton with a piece of paper inside.
"Honey there's a note in this one."
"What?"
"It says 'Sorry, I was hungry. From George the delivery guy"
"Oh Rob call the Chinese Food place."
"Hand me the phone Laura."
While Rob was on the phone arguing, Laura then had an epiphany.
"Wait a minute...if the containers are empty then what added all the weight to the bag?"
Laura looked inside the bag to see one last container. It was the largest of the containers, and Laura took it out. She opened it and could not believe her eyes.
"Rob!"
"Not now honey I'm on the phone."
"Rob look!" Laura squealed.
Rob dropped the phone when he looked at the opened container.
"Walnuts!?"
"Is someone trying to prank us?" Laura asked.
"Check all of the cabinets. Everything. They chose tonight of all nights to scare us with walnuts," Rob said, clearly frustrated.
"Oh honey, even if it was a prank, no harm is done," said Laura as she opened the last cabinet in the kitchen.
"I guess..." Rob sat down. "So what do we eat now?"
"Well, we're certainly not ordering from there again," Laura said as she started to tear up.
"What's wrong?" Rob said with a concerned voice.
"I just wanted you to be happy tonight," Laura said, her voice getting higher than usual.
"Laura, it's fine!" Rob tried reassuring her as he grabbed her shoulders. "We'll make eggs or something quick."
"For dinner?" Said Laura, looking up at Rob quizzically.
"If you want to. It's quick and easy, that way we can get on to other things," Rob smiled.
"Oh alrighty then," Laura gave in after a few moments.
