It was 9:00AM on a Friday and my alarm sounded off loudly. I turned over and immediately put it on snooze.
"OMGGGGG!" I shouted, frustrated as hell. With my eyes barely opened, I laid in bed with a bland face. Studying, massive work loads, projects, interning at our local radio station, JU Radio, and kissing Professors asses everyday, all day was going to have me hanging from our Mass Communication building. It was my senior year at Jefferson University and I never worked so hard in my life.
"NIYAH!" Kelsy yelled while walking towards my bedroom.
Kelsy is my girl! We been tight since I can remember. Our mom's met at JU back in 79" and been inseparable ever since. We participated in the same activities, went to the same schools, lived in the same neighborhood , and shared our first "drug" experiences (alcohol and marijuana) together. As time went on, Kelsey became more attracted to the party lifestyle while I focused more on my studies. I've always been a homebody and barely did anything out the norm ... besides smoking occasionally. We were the opposite of one another but still similar in a lot of ways.
Now we're roommates and been living in our in 3 bedroom, 3 bath condo at Lexington Palace, for two years: the most luxurious condos in Atlanta. We had no one to thank but our parents. High ceilings, stainless steel appliances, huge windows overlooking the city, warm paint colors, and modern décor are amenities that most people dream about so we were very appreciative and remained humble because it could all be gone tomorrow .
"This is what was laying in front of the door this morning." Kelsey said excitedly while plopping on my bed, knocking my MacBook on the floor.
"Damn Kels! Be careful." I grunted, still lying in bed ... mad at the world ... tired as hell!
It was a folded up piece of paper and I had no idea what the hype was about.
"My bad, my bad." She replied while picking up the computer and continuing her conversation.
"When I came back from the lounge last night, I met a guy named Jakobe in the elevator ... we introduced ourselves and supposedly he's new in the building. He told me that himself and a couple of his boys moved in one 5th floor suites."
Barely catching her breath she continued.
"We parted ways or whatever but when I got to the door, I didn't have my damn keys! So as soon as I turned around to walk back towards the elevator, there he was- jingling my keys in his hands."
LAST NIGHT ( Kelsey's POV)
"Can I have those back please?" I asserted while walking towards him.
"There yours right?" He flirtatiously asked exposing his deep, rich voice.
Jakobe stood about 6"3, wearing a grey toboggan with a white Gucci hoodie, grey sweat pants, and Gucci flip flops. Mind you I'm 5"4. He was FINE and I really didn't take notice of anything until now. He was coffee colored with a healthy glow to his complexion; it was quite mesmerizing. The sharpness of his beard yelled cleanness. It was a turn on. He was definitely someone who cared about his image.
"Yes they are." I said while standing on my tip toes to reach for my keys. "Thank you."
"No problem." He responded. "Just make sure you keep up with them next time because I may not be around to return them." He said smiling, introducing his bold dimple.
I instantly felt warm and fuzzy but I snapped out of it immediately. This is my last year and I have to stay focused!
...So I just stood there turbulent and guarded; trying to keep my composure.
"I don't want to have to fuck somebody up ya know?" He stated firmly.
Although we seemed to be around the same age, he spoke with a lot of confidence and presented himself as a man who had his shit together. His eyes never drifted away from mine the entire conversation and even though we just met, I had no choice but to say ...
"I will keep up with my keys next time."
"Thank you." He smiled.
I softly giggled.
I turned around and walk towards my apartment door. I could still feel his presence, even though my back was turned. He stood in the hallway and waited until I got into my place. In the mist of shutting the door, I saw him head back to the elevator while answering a phone call.
I never felt so vulnerable in my life.
BACK TO NIYAH'S ROOM
Oh so you crushing, crushing huh?" I jokingly asked."Chill Niy." She chuckled while playing with her hair. "I barely even know him and I'm sure he's not checking for me."
"Girl please. What does the note say?" I questioned.
Kelsey opened the note and passed it to me. It read:
Good morning,
My boys and I are throwing a house party tonight, at 10PM , and it would be a pleasure if you and your girls came by and kicked it with us. Trust me, we got y'all covered and we will make sure you all are greeted and comfortable.
See ya soon,
PH 510
KobeFrom the energy Kelsey radiated while I read the letter, I knew saying no to going to this party wasn't a choice.
