Zera's P.O.V

The door opened and in walked a girl who was completely drenched, clutching onto her elbows as she visibly shivered. Her shirt was already tight on her, the seams barely holding it together. And her skirt was shorter than everyone else's, reaching half way to her thigh. Ms. Lovato ran over to the shivering girl and pulled her into the classroom, closing the door behind her. "I'm so sorry I'm late Ms. Lovato. My parents car broke down a little over a mile from here and the tow truck wouldn't be here 'til tomorrow so I walked from my car here and I completely missed first period and-."

"It's alright sweetie everything's okay. Just go up to the front office and get some new clothes that are dry and perhaps your size," Ms. Lovato said. The mystery girl with the ocean blue eyes shook her head. "Please don't make me go up to the office. I've already interrupted the class enough. And they don't have anything that will fit. They sent me the wrong size and any replacement is arriving in a couple weeks," she said and tried walking away from the teacher who pulled her back by her shoulder.

"Here," she said as she shrugged off her jacket. The girl tried to deny it but Ms. Lovato insisted. The girl pulled it on her shoulders and wrapped herself tightly in it. She started making her way to her seat but Ms. Lovato called a last name, stopping her before she could reach. "Easton!" She turned around and looked at her. "Yes, ma'am?" "Is there a certain name you'd like to be called?" She gave a small smile. "Just call me Gray."

The teacher nodded and the girl walked to her seat, sitting on the other side of the classroom. Ms. Lovato basically just talked about the small projects we were going to be doing this year and letting us know that we can use the room anytime we'd like with permission that is. "Okay, so I'm assuming you all know about the contest," she started, looking around the classrooms as people started whispering.

"So, the contest is basically a singing competition within the class as artists. You have to compete head to head against each other. Since you're all in my class, you all have sent in an audition tape that I've listened to and that's how you guys are arranged. I group the people who would sound the best together or alone and that's how you compete in the competition. I want everyone to stand up and stand along the back wall of the classroom. When I call your name, I'll assign you to a certain desk and that's where you'll sit for the rest of the year."

We all got up and stood along the wall we were told to. I looked to the girl, Gray, as she stood completely isolated at the end of the line. Since we both were standing, I got to get a good look at her. She had brown hair that reached just under her shoulders and flawless tan skin. She was tall and very skinny. The jacket sleeves were too long on her, her hands being completely covered by them. By now her hair was practically dry, it was a little frizzy now from when she walked in but it still looked neat.

I lifted my head up and looked towards Ms. Lovato. She called up about 5 kids before she called Rose, tell her to sit in the seat right in front of the one in the back corner. My sister, Adira was called to sit to her right. After just a few more names, she called Gray up. She made her walk up to the desk where she stood and whispered something to the girl, who nodded in understanding. "Okay, you'll be sitting in the back corner."

Gray turned to where the teacher was pointing and walked back, sitting right behind Rose. After she finished calling the rest of the names, I was still standing. Ms. Lovato looked at me. "I think you know where you sit," she said laughing. I chuckled quietly with her and sat in the last seat, which happened to be to the right of Gray. "Everyone, take a look at who you're sitting next to." I looked in front of me at my sister and at our new friend Rose.

I then turn to my left and made eye contact with the mysterious stranger named Gray. She offered me a small smile and I shyly smiled back. She covered her mouth with her hand as she giggled and turned back to face the front of the room. I looked at Ms. Lovato who appeared to be mouthing something to Gray as they both smiled at each other and laughed quietly. "Alright. I hope you like who you're sitting with as they'll be your seat mates as well as your roommates for the rest of the year."

A couple people groaned while others silently cheered. I sighed in relief when I still had my sister in the same apartment as me. I just wonder who will be rooming with who since there's only 2 rooms. The class talked for a little while longer, just getting a feel for what it's going to be like when we start projects and the competition. "Alright class, you all have a minute or 2 before class ends so you may talk amongst yourselves until the bell rings.

My sister and Rose turned around to face us as everyone else started talking. it was quiet between us for a few moments while I just got an even closer look at Gray. Her hair had really light brown streaks running from her head to the tips of her hair. She was wearing black ankle boots since we didn't have any restrictions of what shoes we wore.

She turned her body to face the center of our little square, her head down as she played with the loose thread at the end of the sleeves of our teachers' jacket. "Gray," Ms. Lovato said as she walked up behind her and tapped her shoulder. The girl turned around and looked up at her. "Can you stay for a few minutes at lunch, I'd like to speak with you." She looked at us and smiled. "alone." Gray nodded as Ms. Lovato walked back up to her desk.

Gray turned to face us again as the silence settled over us all once more. "Okay, I'm sorry but I can't take this deafening silence anymore. Since we don't have much time left in this class period how about we all meet up at lunch and then we can talk and get to know each other," Gray proposed, still looking down. We all nodded and agreed that it would be a good idea if we all met up together. We compared schedules and noticed that none of us had a class with each other. We all had the same classes, just at different times.

We just sat there and made some small talk for the rest of the class period. When the bell rang, everyone darted out of the classroom as we were the last people to leave. As Rose, Adira, and I were walking to the door, I noticed Gray stray from us and walk over to the teacher's desk where Ms. Lovato sat.

"Hey, Gray, where are you going?" I asked. By now everyone had stopped by the door and was looking at her as well. She turned to look at me. "I'm just gonna return her jacket. You guys go ahead to your next class. I'll just meet up with you guys at lunch." We all nodded as I watched her try to give the jacket back but Ms. Lovato turned it away.

"Just keep it. I have plenty more leather jackets in my apartment," I overheard her say to the young girl. Gray still tried to give it back but after many failed attempts gave up. Before she could turn away, Ms. Lovato tapped her shoulder as they started talking and Adira pulled me away from the door and we separated from Rose to walk in the direction of our classes, mine being English and hers being Science. "So, what do you think of Rose so far?" Adira asked, looking at me as we walked. "She's really nice so far and really funny. I can't wait to get to know her even more," I said honestly. i looked at Adira, awaiting her response. "I couldn't have put it in a better way."

"Wow, that's surprising." "What? Are you mocking me, Smith?" I laughed and gave her a playful glare. "No, Devereaux. Don't get it twisted. I'm just surprised that you're actually agreeing with me." She nodded. "I know. it doesn't feel right." A small silence settled over us, but it didn't last long. "What do you think about Gray?" She asked. I shrugged. "I don't know what I think of her yet. We've barely talked to her." She nodded. "What do you think about her relationship with Ms. Lovato?" I shook my head. "Something doesn't seem right with them. There's something going on and I don't think it's good."

She agreed with me once again. "Well, this is my stop," she said as we paused in front of the science room. I nodded "See ya at lunch." I waved as I picked up my pace so I could get to English on time. This is going to be an interesting year.
