I never knew who my father was, I had never made any attempt to find anything about him. I was an orphan brought up by a lady who was a nurse in the hospital where I was born; she told me how my father's brother killed my parents in the hospital to gain the other half of the property also which had to be inherited by both the sons of my grandfather. He did not want the property to be divided between him and his brother.

But right now I can't think of past or future, I need to be in the present, because I am in danger.

I was just running as fast as I could into the forest with snow all around on the ground, even on the tall pine trees giving shade to the ground and preventing the sunlight from falling on me.

I was thinking ‘What if I die now, I am in a war! ’

I had seen people around me facing death, dropping blood, crying for help, but there was no one to help. A War was going on in Russia, my round helmet and rifle were the only things that could protect me, provided I use them properly.

I, being a soldier had also killed hundreds of people. I was leading a group of soldiers attacking from the east but all of them were killed I was the only one left. I was hit by two bullets, one on my stomach and the other one on my knee.

I was running into unknown directions with my knee injured, limping. While running I slipped and a sharp branch of the pine tree which had fallen on the ground just scratched on the same place on my left knee where I was hit by the bullet.

My leg was bleeding and I was walking on the snow leaving red spots of my blood on it. The red color seemed too bright on the white snow.

I took some rest under a tree nearby. Then after two to three minutes of rest I got up and kept on running. I ran for almost three to four days taking shelter under the trees.

Now my leg had stopped bleeding. But I was feeling my death coming near me, I sat under a tree.

Suddenly I heard a dog barking. The sound was clear but I was unable to see it. I got scared because I was not in a situation to face the dog, so I took out my gun reloaded it and fired it in the direction of the source of sound. The barking stopped.

I took a long deep breath in and I closed my eyes. I saw my whole life flashing in front of my eyes, I was able to see the nurse who grew me up, she was the one who nurtured me. I was not having a father or a mother, but that lady never made me feel like I am an orphan. Then I saw all the days spent in army training camps and the girl whom I loved. I used to meet her only during holidays, when I used to go back home to my mother(nurse).

A soldier's life is not easy, I had to watch people die and kill some of them with my own gun. Some of the people who were killed were my friends, with whom I had my best memories, but when a soldier is in a war he can never be emotional. He has to have a control over his feelings and convert those tears to anger and accuracy and become a killing machine who will be finally be killing the men standing on the other side.

After killing, crossing the ocean of dead bodies and blood is even more difficult. Blood of our own friends, blood of humans. The dead bodies seemed so helpless, some bodies with no hand, some completely burnt, some with no eye, some with no head, some with all the organs out and some with their eyes open as if they wanted to have one last wish fulfilled before they die and death did not warn them before coming and give the opportunity to fulfill their wish.

Some people vomit after looking at the bodies, some hug the completely destroyed bodies with love and cry, but a soldier can not let himself fall down so easily. He has to fight.

And thinking about all this, I fainted.
