Divergent

Chapter 3

I move my hand over the the stones for Abnegation, but just as the blood begins to drip I shift my hand onto the lit coals. I chose Dauntless. I hear the cry of my father, but the cheers of the Dauntless.

I move towards the Dauntless and take my place, the first person to transfer faction.

At the end of the choosing ceremony the dauntless run straight to the stairs, and start to pound down them, I should have realised initiation starts now.

We run for ages, my thighs burning, we Abnegation aren't allowed to run, we aren't allowed self indulgence. I soon realise the other Dauntless have started climbing, there clinging to the railway track.

1 girl can't climb up to the track and falls behind, that's how easy to become faction less it is here.

We hear the train coming and the Dauntless start to run along side it, but I don't understand why until they begin to jump on, I guess I'd better hurry. I am the second initiate to get into the train car, I am quite surprised by myself, and I can't help but smile a little.

I watch as the other initiates get on some Candor, some Erudite, some Amity, quite some Dauntless born, but I am the only Abnegation.

We ride the track all the way out of the town and we see some of the other Dauntless begin to jump into a roof so of course, I follow suit, I am the first initiate transfer to jump off.

I land on the roof and stagger forward falling to my knees. And then everyone stops moving because someone has started to speak. I also notice screams, another 2 missed the gap between the track and roof, there gone.

I move forward to hear what there saying, the Dauntless man, Eric he says, tells us we have to jump off the roof to get into the Dauntless compound.

He then asks who wants to go first and jump of the roof. Me being who I am step forward to go first, and the others start to laugh and call me stiff, stiff is slang for Abnegation, but I don't hear them I just bend my knees and jump.
