Frankie met up with Jonathan for lunch just like she said she would. Her mood was brought up again when she saw him, his brown eyes wandering around for her green ones. She walked over and hugged him.
"I think I just broke up with my best friend." She looped her arm through his.
"Well, that's gonna be awkward. Don't you have like four classes with him?" Jonathan asked as they walked out.
"Five, we picked out our classes together last year." She sighed.
"I wish I could put your thoughts at ease but, getting over it is probably not going to be the easiest thing." He gave her a small smile.
"I know, I know but, I have a distraction." Frankie looked up at him before they got into his old car.
"What?" Jonathan asked as he threw his bag in the back seat.
"You, of course. Where we headed?" She caressed his cheek.
"Mind if we ditch fifth? I got a lot going on with my mom and Will. Just wanna go somewhere quiet." He sighed and rested his head on the seat.
"I don't mind at all, I can't even begin to fathom what you're guys are going through." Her hand went down to hold his on his lap.
"I'm glad it was so easy to reconnect with you." His thumb rubbed the back of her hand.
Frankie saw Nancy standing alone and looking worried.
"Did you see Barb at all today?" Frankie put her seatbelt on.
"No." Jonathan started the car.
"Should we say something?" Frankie turned to him.
"About what?" He drove out of the parking lot.
"What we saw last night? That thing? Whatever that was." Frankie's heart-rate picked up as she thought of what they saw the night before.
"Frankie, we don't even know what we saw. It was really late. We were delusional." He tried to convince her.
"Jonathan! She isn't at school and we literally saw something grab her." Frankie raised her voice.
"You're blowing it out of proportion, I'm sure she's just home because she felt sick or something. Calm down." He squeezed her thigh.
"If she's not here tomorrow, I will personally kick your ass." She threatened.
"I would participate in that gladly." Jonathan winked at her.
"Boys." She rolled her eyes.
Jonathan drove to a quiet and secluded area of town. They parked somewhere and walked into the forest. They walked hand in hand, listening to the tranquil quiet. They saw a stream up ahead and set down their things on some nearby rocks.
"Didn't know this was here." Frankie smiled at the sight.
"Neither did I." Jonathan chuckled and pulled Frankie next to him.
"Talk to me, I'm all ears." She laid her head in his lap.
"I'm such a loner, no wonder everyone thinks I'm a fucking weirdo." He sighed. "My brother is missing and it's kind of my fault, I knew I shouldn't have taken that shift but I did anyway. Just thought it would be good to bring in some extra cash." His eyes watered.
