I was bored. Not just normal bored, but very bored. Super bored. Everyone was sleeping. So. Boring. I stood up and made my way to the entrance to the den. Bright yellow tinted light spilled through the entrance. I had seen it before, but it was still the brightest thing i had ever seen. I could walk out there and see the bright things that ly beyond, as easy as striped river vole.

I sighed. I couldn't do that. Slowly, i walked back to my family's sleeping space, and promptly sat on Géni.

"Mhirie!" she groaned sleepily. "Quit sitting on me!"

"Well, then wake! Up!" I yipped in her ear.

"Mfff?"

"Yes, now!"

"Mff.''

I got off her back and shoved my face in hers. "Pleeeeease?" I used my best 'please play with me because i'm adorable' face

"Alright.'' she agreed, and nudged my flank playfully.

Sometimes i feel sorry for my older sister. She has no littermates. Well, nether do i, but she is the oldest, and i am the youngest. Usually a vixen's first litter has many cubs. Some other times i feel kinda jealous. Géni is not really a cub, but a young vixen. She goes outside all the time. So do all of my older siblings. Harumph.

"Géni?" i asked, a little later, "what's it like outside?"

"Well, little Mhirie, why don't you find out when Ma wakes up." she said. "I think it's about time."

"Are you sure about this?" My older brother, Ra'awent, asked.

"Yes, worry-worm!" i shouted.

"Hush! Ma scolded "close your eyes, Mhirie," i did. I felt her rest the tip of her brush on my bowed forehead. I heard the shuffling of pawsteps as my older siblings lined up behind us. My paws stumbled clumsily on the ground i did not know. I could feel the ground going up, and as it did, the small amount of light i could see through my eyelids got brighter. As the ground leveled out, i heard a low, gravely, voice. "Skulk of Kíro'ron, i present to you Mhirie, the last daughter of Oreá!"
