Chapter 3.

Ethan

I knew that I shouldn't had gone to that party. Ever since that day, her eyes had been plaguing my mind. They were perfectly imprinted within the library of my memories. I could recall the dark brown that was close to black, and the purple swirl that surrounded her irises. Never had I ever seen such exotic brown eyes. They had my wolf and I completely hypnotized. I was already prepared to go through the ends of the earth just so I could continue to stare in to those eyes.

I remembered how her long, wavy black hair was loose and how it beautifully fell down her back. Although we were in a room with dim lighting, her olive skin literally glowed. She was nothing I imagined my mate to look like, but everything I could have hoped for.

She's perfect, my wolf had said.

I was just happy to be standing there, her sweet scent--vanilla and the wet forest after a rainy day--filling my nostrils. But after a moment passed, I slowly began to recognize her, and my smile fell. Violeta Wyatt of the Luminita pack. She was the daughter of Andrew Wyatt, third in command, and niece of Alpha Jason Wyatt. With that fact in mind, my eyes left her face and analyzed the rest of her. Not only did she have a slender figure, but she had a petite stature. She didn't appear to possess any muscles. She was too skinny to look like the average shifter; too fragile and too delicate.

She did not seem like the perfect Luna, not that my wolf cared.

My wolf was urging me to claim her and it took all my willpower to resist the temptation. The internal battle ceased once my wolf and I noticed the frown that crossed her features. The sight of it did not sit well with my wolf, and a small part of me didn't like it either. For a small moment, my happiness depended on hers. But before I could have done anything, she pushed herself away and begun to walk in the other direction, distancing herself away from me.

No, my wolf barked. She's not supposed to walk away from us! Stop her!

My feet were glued to the ground and I did nothing but watch as she talked to Marcus Wyatt. I noticed how she struggled to flash a genuine smile. She took another couple of steps before returning her attention to me. Conflict was swimming within her orbs. Those eyes were sure to be the death of me.

The gym smelt of sweat, as usual. My eyes were shut tightly and my breathing was heavy and deep. With 125 lbs. drumbells in each hand, I lifted them one at a time, slowly and at my own pace. I kept my mind blank, only concentrating on nothing but the music that was playing on my phone. I didn't want to think since her face would pop into my head.

"Dude, are you okay?" Tyler asked, placing a hand on my shoulder. With an abrupt stop, I placed the drumbells down, took an earbud out from my ear, and turned my attention to him, Like me, he was dripping in sweat. His grey shirt was even stained with sweat and it clung to his body.

"Yeah," I responded with a tone void of emotion. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"You seemed kind of tense," he elaborated.

I could not help but lift a brow at his words. "Tyler, I'm lifting weights. Why wouldn't I be tense?"

He rolled his eye and took a seat on a nearby bench. "That's not what I mean. Since the party yesterday, you've been acting kind of different." His eyes shifted to the ceiling as he searched for the appropriate words to say. "Distracted, I guess. It seems like something is on your mind."

I took a deep breath and settled my gaze to look downwards. Should I really tell Tyler that I finally found my mate? He was already a mated wolf, so he obviously had some credible insights. Sure this was something that every shifter dreamed of, but it was not something I wanted right now. Plus, with the hostility between our packs, I was not sure how we were going to handle the situation. I knew I had to talk to her.
