Despite my consent to go to Lealta High as soon as possible , it was another month before I made the journey to the school.
Jai , who was supposedly one of my guardians while I was at Lealta High didn't talk much if ever after the first few days but that didn't matter to me, just the thought of studying in Lealta's walls could fill me with adrenaline and tension. It wasn't just the school, or the free tuition or even the chance of escape from my mundane life at the Orphanage , it was the fact that I, Mirabelle Hunter had been chosen for something most would kill for.
Looking back on it now I found it ironic how willing I was to give up everything for the chance at Lealta.
My first view of Lealta was magical .
It was a beautiful red-brown brick stone with gilded windows, glossy benches posted on the outside on the soft deep green grass that made you want to forget all your worries and fears. The trees were grand, majestical, almost regal in the way they surrounded the courtyard of Lealta and their leaves blew gently to and fro. In time I would come to know the courtyard was like Lealta itself deceptively beautiful and full of secrets.
Yet it was the building itself that made me feel I had come home, as if it understood a part of me that I had never known, Jai who'd been watching me quietly, lightly up till this point, smiled and made a tiny salute.
"Welcome Mira of The Hunters, he rasped , to Lealta, may we teach you wisdom, grace, intelligence beyond compare, compassion beyond belief, and friendship and loyalty that never falters or breaks", he finished.
"Welcome Daughter of The Hunters to Lealta, and The beginning of the rest of your life".
