As I walk through the woods I spot a tall broad figure. His eyes are looking directly at me and my whole body glaciates. My feet can't move. I want to escape. I start to sweat and breath irregularly. It's a man with dark grey eyes and pale skin. My circulation stops and my blood turns ice cold.
...
"Rose wake up!". I hear my mom calling from the kitchen. "Breakfast is ready". I wake up flooded in my own cold sweat and my body is chilled. I struggle to remember my dream from last night. It quickly drives me to a horrid migraine and I decide to let it go. I quickly run down the stairs. When I arrive in the kitchen I grab a plate and serve some eggs & bacon on my plate. I take a seat next to my mom. We have small talk like how's the weather and school or whatever.
My subconscious strives to bring up the dream. Yes I have a couple of nightmares usually but this time it felt so legit.
I make my way to the car to drive to drive to hell.
When I get there I park in the seniors parking lot and rush inside. I find my more cheerful twin Kacy in the halls and walk towards her. She's been my closest friend since endless time. I met her in elementary and we've been through so much that words can't explain. We have a compact relationship. She will always remain my go to person when I'm in deep dilemmas. I love her her to death.
"Hey rose!" Kacy beams
She's always joyous and chirpy. We're polar opposites but I have always liked to put up with her. It's a challenge I'm happy to take.
"Hello." I reply flatly.
"You look like shit today" She laughs and I roll my eyes. Her charm never ceases to annoy me.
"Gee thanks" I retort.
"What's wrong?" She asks not showing any concern for me.
"I'm fine just had some weird dream nothing to worry about" I glance her way and there's a crease between her eyebrows.
*bell rings*
"Well I have to go I'll talk to you later" I state the obvious.
"Goodbye grim reaper" She gives my a sly smile and starts laughing.
"Will you please stop calling me that"
"Nope" I give her the finger as I start walking to class.
"Don't be late to class Rachel Berry" I holler. I turn to see her face and if looks could kill I would be dead. I mentally pat myself in the back for coming up with something clever to say to annoy her.
...
The day goes by quickly. Typical high school day. Uptight teachers, cocky jocks, irritating kids. Boring as always.
I open the car door, sit, and drive home with the nightmare still at the back of my mind. It's like a pesky fly that doesn't want to leave.
When I get there I see my mom talking with someone on the phone.
"Yeah that's great.. When.. I will have to speak about this with my daughter but I will most likely take the job.. thank you so much this is an immense opportunity I don't know how to thank you.." She chuckles "Thank you so so much. Goodbye"
"Mom?" I give her a puzzled look.
"I have some great news Rose why don't you take a seat and let's talk."
I nod and plop down on a white leather chair next to the glass table.
"Okay I have a great job opportunity in West Virginia, they are raising my salary and the houses there are less expensive. I know this is a whole lot to take in because you've lived here your whole life, but this is what's best for us at the moment. No more struggling financially." She grins from ear to ear.
Hell yeah it's a lot to take in. I've never left New York. Ever. I imagine moving to someplace I don't even know and the walls begin to close in
"..I don't know mom" Her smile slowly fades.
"Please just think about it and let me know later I need to know what you think about this. These opportunities don't just come and go. Were talking about our future here and this is a great movement for my job" she explains. There's a glint of sadness in her eyes.
"I need to process this"
"Okay"
I stand up and walk upstairs towards my room. I wonder how Kacy will react. I can't just let go of my relationship with her like it never happend. We have a lot of history that made us, us. I'll have to tell her tomorrow when I see her during school.
The rest of the day consists of me watching shows on netflix and nonstop eating. I didn't think this is how I would react when my whole world comes crashing down.
...
When I wake up I do my usual morning routine. Brush my teeth, shower, do my hair, etc. I check the time and it's 7:40. School starts at 8:00 so I have no time to eat. I rush down the stairs grab a chocolate chip cookie and my keys and I'm out the door.
I text Kacy and tell her I have to talk to her in front of the school. I park my car and walk towards her when I spot her in front of the gates of hell.
"Hey what's wrong rose?" She asks with a worried expression.
"I have some real bad news so brace yourself" she nods. My hands are shaking. What the hell? I never get this nervous.
"My mom got a great job opportunity in West Virginia and she's planning to move there soon. I don't know what to do kace I want to stay here not move to some strange place I've never set foot on. Plus I don't want to leave you."
"What?" I know she heard me she's just trying to process it all. Even I haven't processed all of this its way too much.
"I'm so sorry" I say. Her face completely falls and my heart aches that I will never see her as often
*bell rings* Damn that stupid bell.
"Let's talk after class Kace." I wrap my arms around her in an embrace then start walking away.
When I get to my first period I'm late. I open the door and everyone's head turns to me. Can't they just mind their own business damn.
"Care to explain why you're late Rose?" Mrs. Martinez asks. Raising one eyebrow at me.
"No" I walk towards my desk and take a seat. She looks at me shocked. I've always been a quiet student but right now I just really want to leave this..
My thoughts are interrupted by her high pitched voice that makes my ears bleed. I notice her annoying voice now. It sounds more like a screech of a seagull.
"Excuse me?"
I ignore her and fight back the urge to chop off her tongue.
She walks towards her teachers desk grabs a piece of paper writes something on it then slams it on my desk.
"Detention Rose" Yeah like I'm going to serve it. Note the sarcasm.
I simply smile and leave it at that.
