I walk back to my room and dwell upon starting school tomorrow. Great even more frustration and stress. I haven't even bought my materials or uniform. A great deal of undone tasks assault my brain. I sigh in frustration and consider buying the materials first. I'm getting rid of the most pesky thing early. The faster the better.
I throw on some grey sweatpants and a black tank top with black converse. My appearance is the least of my worries.
I approach a mirror and almost slap myself for my previous thoughts. I look like a Chinese Crested Hairless Dog. I apply some eyeliner on my water line and some mascara on my lashes. My appearance looks slightly sharpened. I grab my car keys and my wallet and I'm out the door. I send my mom a quick text telling her I'm out for the rest of the day.
*Okay but be home by 7:00 I have someone I want you to meet lol*
My moms text reads. I start cracking up at my moms use of Internet slang.
...
I walk up the stairs about to collapse at any minute. It is 9:24 p.m. and my mother is going to kill me. It turns out that the materials weren't the hardest things to buy, it was the uniforms. I couldn't find any store to buy my pants. The whole time I was driving all over Richmond hoping to find any stores. School starts tomorrow and I am beyond frustrated. How can they not have a single store selling school pants I mean come on.
As I'm about to put my bags down to open the door the door flungs open and I'm met with a pair of green eyes. I stand there awkwardly shifting from one foot to the other waiting for him to help me. It is visibly obvious that I'm struggling with the bags and he just stands there like an airhead.
"No don't worry it's alright. I got it thank you for your concern." I sarcastically say.
My attempt to go through the narrow opening fails when one bag after the other starts to fall on Harrys legs. He hisses in pain. I give up on grabbing them when most of them are on the floor. I try to stop myself from laughing I really do. But this a downright great show he's putting on. Tears of laughter prick at my eyes and I wipe them with my hand."Are you all right you were starting to worry me. I thought you were turning into a seal." He sarcastically remarks. I huff and smack his upper arm before leaning over to pick everything up.
My mom opens the door swiftly and looks at us."I see you've met Harry." My mom states. Yep, wish I can unmeet him.
"Yeah yesterday actually. It's a quite funny story you see I was asleep and he interrupted my slumber with shattering plates and loud thuds from his boots. I also almost cracked his skull with my lamp when I though he was a serial killer." I glance Harrys way and he's holding back his laughter.
"You could've introduced him or said he was going to our house to steal our food and make an obnoxiously loud racket in the kitchen."
"Do not speak about him like that, that's rude." My mom says worried. Probably hoping what I said before didn't affect him. I roll my eyes and attempt once again to carry the bags. Harry finally looks like he found his brain when he starts helping me with the bags. My mom follows us and sits on a stool. It's one of the many new things that came with this house. We place everything on the table and my mom breaks the silence.
"So Harry wants to be your mentor for the new school. Like show you where your classes are." My mom says.
"No thanks they gave you a map. Through your email. Remember mother." I say trying to make her go along with my lie. I don't like Harry. His presence reminds me of Kace and I just want to stay as far away from him as possible. It kind of feels like he's her replacement and no one, I mean no one can replace her.
"No they didn't." She says bluntly. Really mom?
"Can I speak to you in private?" I ask my mom. She nods and follows me into the living room.
"I don't want him to me my mentor."
"Why not Harrys a very nice guy and you guys have more things in common than you can imagine." I snort.
"How do you even know him? I've never seen him before." I question.
My mom opens her mouth to speak but is interrupted by Harry walking inside.
"I should go, my grandmother is waiting for me and there's school tomorrow." Harry signals to the door and my mom nods.
"Harry before you leave Rose will gladly let you show her the way around school tomorrow. You will meet here yeah?"
"Yeah that's cool. I'll drive" I huff in annoyance and walk to my room like a 5 year old.
Once I hear the front door slam there's a low knock on my door.
"Yes?" My mom walks in and stands by the end of my bed.
"You know you don't have to be rude to Harry."
"I know." I state.
"Then why are you?" I sigh.
"I just don't want to have friends right now. Im already dealing with Kacys.. You know." I can't bring myself to say death. It was so easy at first because her death didn't sink in but every day that passes by without any contact with her feels like a knife is being pushed deeper and deeper into my stomach. Even though physical pain is nothing compared to how I'm feeling now.
"I'm just saying to make friends Rose not to replace Kace."
"Okay mother." I snap. This conversation is getting me agitated. She silently leaves the room. Once again the loneliness creeps inside me.
Flash Back (both age of ten)
"Come on Rose nothing bad is going to happen." Kace supplicates.
"Fine." I sigh. "But if we get caught I'm blaming it on you." Kacy squeals and hugs me.
"Come on!" She scampers into the kitchen and I follow behind. Her mother is working and her father is sleeping so there's a vast likelihood we won't get caught. She gets a huge bowl from the cabinet and I get syrup from the refrigerator. I squeeze the bottle of syrup lightly into the bowl.
"You squeeze like a wuss give me that." She reaches and clutches it tightly. "This is how you do it." She smirks. I roll my eyes. She fills it to the top. I gaze at the chocolate and my mouth waters.
"When are we drinking it?" I ask impatiently. She grabs it and brings it to her dad's office where we play with his computer.
"We can drink it and play Barbie games at the same time." Kace puts her hands on her hips and gives me a devilish look. My gut tells me not to do this but my stubbornness ignores it. What can go wrong?
"I'll go get the straws." I state. When I return my jaws drops to the floor.
"Kace what did you do!" I exclaim.
She's on the floor with syrup all over her body. Every time she tries to stand up she slips again. Her laugh is contagious because I laugh with her even though we are in so much trouble.
"What is this?" A voice booms behind me. Kate stops laughing and my ears get hot.
"It was her idea." We both say in unison pointing to each other.
I smile at the memory and my eyelids become heavy before my vision goes dark.
