— Caroline —

Waking up on a bed made of straw or hay was not really a strange occurrence for me. Oftentimes, I would begin to fall asleep in my workshop, and the fact that it was situated inside the stone building a few dozen yards from the Barn meant that the barn was as far as I got some nights, stumbling towards my bed.

What was New, was the Rats. My barn was impeccably searches for Rats every few weeks, by a health inspector who was one of my very best friends, perhaps because I made him very wealthy with my repetitive, useless inspections, to wipe out the ONE animal in all the world that I couldn't stand.

RATS.

I screeched, lurching to my feet, and backed away from the small creature, crashing into an unfamiliar, flimsy wall, which cracked and puffed dust into the air when I hit it, like dry plaster.

Something banged against the fourth wall, which I now saw to be a metal grate. "Quiet in There, ya fuckin' drunk! Ah'm tryin' te get some sleep t'night!" A sort of garbled, heavily accented English spilled from the form of the man leaning against the cell door, on a wooden crafted stool, which seemed odd, and out of place, as did the woolen clothes he wore, which didn't look like any police uniform I'd ever seen.

What he'd said suddenly clicked, and I slightly relaxed, realizing I must've gotten myself in trouble while drinking, and found myself in the next town over, in a drying-out cell.

"Oh... righ'... sorry abou' Tha', mate!" I frowned at my own voice, also heavily accented, and missing the 'T' consonant on the end of my words. As hard as I could try, no properly-pronounced words ending with 'T' were made.

"WHAT'D I SAY, YA FUCKIN' TRÖLLKIN BASTARD?!? WANT I SHOULD WHACK YE EVEN STUPID-ER WITH ME CLUB!?!?" The guard snarled, and turned towards the gate.

I froze at the sight of green skin, tusks, and yellow eyes that adorned the guard's face, and He mistook my confusion and alarm for actual fear. He snorted, and nodded with finality, turning forward. "Ye, tha's what I thought, ya wee blonde cunt! Interruptin' me sleep!"

I scowled at being called a Cunt, and darted forward, surprised by my silent swiftness. When I reached the gate, I reached through, wrapping one bulging bicep around his throat, and simply rammed him backwards into the metal, choking him roughly.

"Ma'name... is Caroline." I snarled, and then slammed him again, releasing him with a disgusted scoff, then ripped the keys, (an old-fashioned key-ring with accordion-keys,) off his belt.

Unlocking the door from the inside was nearly impossible, as the bars of the door were only a few inches apart, and my arms, even my forearms, were too bulky to fit through. As I was about to give up, a slim set of hands, belonging to a beautiful platinum-blonde man with slightly pointed ears, reached through the bars easily, and guided the key into the lock, turning it and unlocking the door.

The guard leapt to his feet, finally (mostly) recovered from my stone-like bicep crushing his windpipe, and pulled a billy-club off his belt, which was made of raw leather, and of shoddy workmanship.

I casually kicked open the door, and stepped out, cracking my knuckles. "I'm usually one for following the law... but you've pissed me off. Bring it, Ugly. Maybe my fist will make your face a little less fucked-up!" I grinned, taunting him.

He roared and charged me, but I set my feet, and simply placed my shoulder into his face, halting his momentum without even feeling his collision into me, like I was made of living stone, suddenly. He bounced back, eyes rolled into his skull, completely unconscious.
