“This is the TV room. We spend most of our time in here, I guess, ‘cause of the tele and stuff.” Liam tells me while we are still in the main living room. “Also, you can’t eat in here. I’m usually the one to clean up after all these imps,” Liam jokingly musses up Niall’s hair, “so I set down some rules.”
“OOH OOH I WANNA SHOW KEIRA THE GAME ROOM!” Louis exclaims excitedly, and he runs through a wide, gold archway. As I walk in, there is music playing from speakers in the ceiling and all around the room, hidden. “That’s our music,” Louis says in a singsong voice and starts singing along.
“Alright, Lou, you said you wanted to show her the game room, not show off.” Zayn points out, and I turn towards him, not realising he was there. Liam, Niall and Harry all crack up, but Niall’s laugh sticks out from among the other chuckles.
“Fine.” Louis whines, and he goes to the corner and fake pouts. “This is the game room. We play games in here,” he says to the wall, but then turns around with a huge smile on his face. “We have a Wii, an Xbox, and about every gaming system imaginable. So…yeah!” Louis walks towards the TV and points out the gaming consoles. “Plus, daddy,” he adds sarcastically, “only lets us have drinks in here. So that’s our drink fridge.” Louis points to the not-so-mini fridge decorated with magnets of the boys and their mums. Niall walks over, opens it up, and shows me the assortment of drinks with a “ta-da!” and jazz hands. I quickly realise that these boys really enjoy life and are quite silly.
“Now down the hatch!” Louis yells and runs off, pretending to be superman. He hits a big red button labeled “THE HATCH” and the wooden floor in front of the couch opens up. The lid barely scrapes the brown leather couch, and I look down, staring at a ladder descending into the darkness.
“Ladies first,” Harry slaps my bum and gives me a little shove toward the gap in the floor. I teasingly gasp, and then Niall starts laughing again at how much Harry is flirting. I hesitantly step towards the gap and turn around. I bend over, ignoring Harry’s wolf-whistles, and put one leg on the third step of the ladder. I continue to climb down, until I reach solid ground and there are no more rungs below me.
“Hey, Keira, hit the lights!” Liam orders me around, but it sounds a lot easier than it is. It is pitch black down here, so I stumble around trying to find a light switch. My hip bumps into a sharp corner, and I yell out, feeling like I’ve just been shot.
“I’ll save you, Keira! Superman!” Louis yells as he and Harry fight over who gets to go down first. Harry wins, and Louis follows shortly. Niall clambers down after him, and Liam and Zayn take their time, knowing I’m in good hands. Harry turns the lights on, and I slowly get back up to my feet. I see that my attacker was actually a Ping-Pong table, and I rub my sore hip as I stand. Niall comes over to me and caringly puts his arm around my shoulder.
“You alright, love?” He has a look of concern on his face as he comforts me.
“I’m fine, thanks, Niall,” I assure him and turn my face so it’s facing him. I study his beautiful eyes and after a minute of eye contact, we both turn away, blushing.
“Keira, this is our other game room. There’s table tennis, table football, and billiards. We also have a basketball hoop down here, like one of those arcade rooms.” Harry leads me past all the games, and we walk into a big, open space. We are underground, but the ceiling above us is made of glass and looks up into the sky. We must be under the garden. There are 5 treadmills, some weights, exercise bikes and other random exercise equipment. On the other half of the room, opposite the exercise stuff, is a massage table, a few yoga mats, and a flat screen TV. There is another Wii down here, with a Wii Fit board and one remote.
“This is officially the coolest house ever! I could get used to living here for 6 months!” I burst out, smiling like a mad man.
“Love, this is just the basement. Wait until you see the rest of the ground floor and the first floor.” Harry smiles knowingly at me, and adds a wink. He just won’t stop flirting with me, but it is kind of sweet, I guess. After I admire the lowest floor, we all reluctantly leave, deciding that a table tennis tournament can wait until tomorrow, until we’re not all as tired. Climbing back upstairs, I notice that my wrists still have red marks from the handcuffs, and my ankles have started screaming in pain every time my sweatpants rub against the raw area. My pants ride up on my leg slightly as I climb up onto the main level, and Zayn sees the red welts around my ankles.
“Keira?”
“Yeah, Zayn?”
“Lift up your pant legs for just a sec,” Zayn draws attention to my legs, and the rest of the boys gather around me. I slowly obey, feeling five pairs of eyes on my lower leg area and me. Liam gulps as he sees what has happened.
“Love, we’re going to stop the tour. We’ll finish it tomorrow, once we get some cream on those raw areas.” Niall reaches over and squeezes my hand once.
“I’ll put some cream on it right now, Keira.” Harry volunteers with a cheeky grin on his face. We all walk back, and through the living room and kitchen. I walk up the stairs silently, and the boys are behind me, clowning around like usual. I would like to continue the tour, but I know that if I go to bed the morning will come much quicker.
“Night, Keira,” Harry turns left and continues talking, though much quieter, “I’ll join you in a little while, if you know what I mean.” The rest of the boys scoff and hoot with laughter.
“Don’t mind Haz, he’s just a big flirt. He really doesn’t mean it-,” Liam pats me on the back.
“-or does he?” Louis winks at me and follows Harry, going to the bedroom next to Harry’s.
“You’ll get used to us, and after 6 months you’ll never want to leave.” Liam slaps me on the back, and I can tell that we’ll be good friends.
Zayn simply nods and adds a, “Night, sleep well,” before disappearing into his room. I’m left standing at the top of the stairs with Niall, staring at him with tired eyes.
“You better get going, love, it’s been a big day. You’ll want to sleep well, your parents will arrive tomorrow for lunch, and the boys and I have a lunch appointment with Uncle Simon-Simon Cowell, I mean-to discuss tour stuff. I’ll see you in the morning, Keira.” Niall shoots me a smile and turns around, disappearing behind the very first door.
I walk into my room in a haze, thinking about Niall and the rest of the boys. As a result, I trip over my mattress and land sprawled across it. My hands slap the wooden floor, and I suppress a cry of pain. Instead, I stand up and dust myself off, and find pajamas buried underneath miscellaneous piles of clothes. I shut the door, turn the lights off, and use my phone as a light to guide me, safely, to the mattress. I lie down, and shut my eyes against the rays of moonlight shining through the picturesque casement windows.
I sit up abruptly, I remember that tomorrow, I’m going to see my parents again! I’ll have to shower again in the morning, after my run, to make myself presentable for my mother. She won’t cut me any slack, even after what I’ve been through the past few weeks. I can picture her, however, complimenting me on my weight. She’ll mention how skinny I look, and my dad will scold her (“Ken-zah”) and tell me later, in privacy, how I’m beautiful no matter what size I am. I’ll live through her jabs and ‘suggestions’, because right now, I just want an explanation of the past few weeks’ events.
On that pleasant note, I turn over onto my side and face the shut door. I slowly allow my eyes to droop, and I wait for the peace of sleep to overtake me.
