SHORT BUT IMPORTANT PREFACE:

Harry brushes back his curls as he looks at the florescent sign that blarred its colorful noise down an alley in New York. The sky was quickly fading, but Harry didn't care, only desiring one thing in order to move on---ink to stop his bleeding heart.

His shoes allow echoes to float all the way to the tattoo artist’s ears. The artist eagerly ran to the counter from the back room, excited that a customer has finally arrived. The artist looks to be about seventeen, Harry notices, the age he was when he met the blue eyed boy. Harry shrugs it off, remembering that he came here to move on.

Although, he knew that in order to move on, he would need to relive it all, all from the very beginning.

He gives the artist his idea of what he would like on his skin, and the artist asks Harry what his story is. Harry breathes in a quick intake of air and begins.

“It’s been two years since I last saw him. Everyday since that last moment, I wake up in cold sweats and imagine his eyes looking into mine---suddenly remembering how they will never do that again.

“People say that the story of the Titanic’s fallout is one of the most heartbreaking tales of the century. For me, the Titanic is one of the greatest coming of age stories that isn’t just a story---it’s my story,” Harry tells the tattoo artist.

“I can still smell the fresh paint, I cant still hear the blarring whistle, and even the glass clinking at evening dinner,” Harry looks down and covers his face. “I---”

“You what?” the tattoo artist asks, interested.

Harry’s eyes meet the tattoo artist’s. “I remember his faint voice calling out my name---his screams that I can never get out of my nightmares.”

“So,” the tattoo artist begins,

“Harry,” Harry prompts.

“So, Harry,” the tattoo artist says, “what happened to that lad?”

Harry slams his eyes shut ready to relive the memories all over again.

“Harry!”

Harry opens his eyes and for the first time, in a long time, he see’s the ship he most dreaded and the people who he only saw in his dreams, and for once he was happy to see the girl who pushed him over the railing that one foggy night.
