"Sophie, it's time to wake up," I heard a familiar voice say. It took me a few seconds to open my eyes and realize that LouAnn Robinson was sitting on my bed. I almost corrected her on what my name was, but I remembered what the Watcher said.
"Good morning, Mom," I answered sleepily.
"Happy birthday, Sophie," LouAnn answered, "I can't believe you're thirteen now. You've grown so much. I'll go downstairs and make your favorite breakfast while you get ready for a day out." When I got out of bed, I looked at the calendar to see what day it was. The calendar showed that it was August 15th. It was ,my thirteenth birthday.
"Holy shit," I exclaimed. I couldn't believe at what I say in the mirror. I looked a lot like LouAnn, except I had the same blonde hair that LouAnn has. My blue eyes were now green eyes. I had Joe's nose and smile. I noticed that I was significantly thinner than I was when I was Arabella. The only thing that never changed was my birthday.
I went back into my bedroom and looked through my dressers and my closet to look for an outfit. There were cheerleading competition shirts, some dancewear, and a couple of choir competition shirts. Eventually, I settled on a white camisole, a pink cardigan, black leggings, and black flats. I curled my long, blonde hair and went downstairs for breakfast.
"Happy birthday, Sophie," Grace and Joe exclaimed in unison. It took me a while to remember that Ben and Morgan lived in Mobile, Alabama and Breanna was in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
"Thank you, Gracie and Dad," I smiled. We all ate breakfast together. After we were done, Ben and Morgan called, and soon after, Breanna called. Once Breanna hung up, LouAnn came out holding my birthday present. It was a small box wrapped up in shiny blue wrapping paper. I quickly tore open the wrapping paper to reveal a white iPhone 4S box.
"Oh my goodness, Mom and Dad," I exclaimed, "I can't believe you guys bought me an iPhone!"
"Do you like it, Sophie," Joe asked.
"I love it, Dad," I smiled, "Thank you both so much." I got up and hugged Joe and LouAnn. After I opened Grace's present to me, we all got ready to go out. It was a perfect day. We went out to the mall and the movies, and it was a complete blast. We got home at about eleven at night. Gracie and I went up to bed. Maybe reliving the next four years wouldn't be so bad. Little did I know what I was in for.
EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER:
It was just like every regular Sunday morning. I went to church with Grace, LouAnn and Joe. While we were on our way back home, Ben and Morgan called LouAnn's phone. I watched as LouAnn put her phone on speaker.
"Hi, Ben," LouAnn greeted sweetly, "Hi, Morgan."
"Hey, Mom," Ben responded, "Are we on speaker?"
"Yes," the four of us answered in unison. I missed both of them so much, and I wanted them both to come back to Eureka Springs.
"We have some news for you guys," Morgan stated, "I can't wait to tell you guys," Were they finally coming home? Was one of them gravely ill? Just the thought of that made my stomach turn.
"Don't keep us waiting, you losers," Gracie yelled. "Just tell us already."
"We're going to have a baby," Morgan and Ben exclaimed. Grace, Joe, and LouAnn screeched. Then it hit me. Ben and Morgan having Sadie was the reason why my relationship with Joe and LouAnn started deteriorating.
When we got home, I ran upstairs into my bedroom and cried. Something in my gut told me that this life wasn't going to work out, but I was taught that I should always be positive when I was Arabella. I had to remain positive. LouAnn called me when it was time for youth group at about five o'clock. I didn't want to go, but I went anyway. I didn't want to talk to my parents at all.
I couldn't wait to see my friends, especially my boyfriend, Christian Webber. As soon as I saw Christian, I nearly jumped out of the car. I ran up to him and hugged him.
"Hello, my love," I said as I hugged him from behind.
"Hello, my beautiful girl," Christian said to me, "Come with me to our secret room during worship. I have something to show you. Our one year anniversary is coming up, and I have huge surprises for you." I smiled and told him I'd be there. Our secret room was in the basement of the church. It was in a classroom no one ever uses. I couldn't wait to see what Christian had in store.
As soon as worship started, Christian waited for one song to be over before he left. I waited for the second song to be over to go and meet him. I quickly but quietly made my way downstairs into our secret room.
"There you are," Christian smiled, "I was wondering how long you were going to wait."
"i figured I'd wait for Hosannah to be over," I stated, "So, what's your surprise?"
Christian reached into his pocket and pulled out a condom.
"A condom," I laughed, "What are you gonna do, blow it up and make a balloon animal out of it?"
"No, you goof," Christian said, "I want to use it on a beautiful girl I love. Whenever you feel you're ready to, of course. I won't push you to do it."
"I don't know, Christian," I sighed, "My parents will kill me if they ever found out."
"They won't know unless you tell them about it," Christian smiled as he kissed me on the forehead, "It'll be our little secret."
"Okay," I mumbled, "We can do it when I come over on Tuesday. Just don't take it off."
"I won't, I promise," Christian said, "Are you sure you're ready to do this?"
"I'm fifteen, most of the girls in our grade have already done it," I stated, "I'm ready to know what real love feels like."
I spent the rest of the night with Christian until I had to go home. As soon as my parents said it was time to leave, I jumped in the car and started falling asleep.
"Sophie, what did you think of Pastor John's lesson tonight," LouAnn asked.
"It was good," I lied, "I liked it."
"As your father and I were listening to it, it made us realize we need to talk to you about your relationship with Christian," LouAnn replied, "Have you two kissed each other yet?"
"Yes, Mom," I answered truthfully.
"Have you two, you know, done the deed together," LouAnn asked next.
"What deed," I responded.
"Have you slept with him, Sophie," Joe chimed in.
"No, Dad, we haven't," I replied, "We both talked about it and we decided it was best to wait until we were married."
"We're proud of you, Sophie," LouAnn smiled, "We don't want you to have to go through what a girl in our high school went through. She got pregnant, gave birth in the bathroom at school, and killed the baby. It was horrible. She's still in prison because of it." I stayed silent the rest of the car ride home. I wish I could talk to Jasmine, but in this life, Arabella doesn't exist, and Jasmine doesn't know me as Sophie. I cried myself to sleep that night.
When Tuesday came around, I waited eagerly to go to Christian's house. Little did I know what I was in for.
