*Later that night*
Ashley's POV:
I lied on Joey's bare chest, listening to his racing heartbeat. His chest rose and fell quickly to match his breaths. "I love you." he managed to say. "And I you." I answered, just as out of breath. He smiled at me and kissed my forehead. "I'll draw you a bath, huh?" I nodded quietly. He stood up, pulled on his boxer briefs, and walked to the bathroom. I sighed heavily, pulling the blanket up a bit more over my body. I gazed around the room, seeing many pictures of Joey growing up. And one in the corner of my dad and I when he was still alive. "All done baby girl." I heard Joey call.
Marley's POV:
"Doctor Dew says I have to come in at 8:00AM tomorrow." I said to Sawyer who was pulling off his shirt. "For what?" he asked, muffled by the shirt. "For a check up and ultrasound." I said. "He needs to check on our little one." He smiled with excitement, "Already?!" I nodded. It was getting more and more real each day. Sawyer pressed a hand to my stomach and kissed it. "Love you peanut." "Peanut?" I asked, cocking my head. He nodded and chuckled, "I gave baby a nickname. Peanut Hartman."
*Next day~ 9:15AM*
"Well Mrs. Hartman," Dr. Dew said. "You're progressing wonderfully at 2 1/2 months." "Months?" I asked surprised. He nodded with a smile, "That's right." I squeezed Sawyer's hand tighter. "Nervous, babe?" I nodded slowly. "Gonna start showing soon." he chuckled. I imagined myself with a little baby bump and Sawyer gushing over little Peanut and couldn't help but crack a smile. "Please sit." Dr. Dew said, motioning to the chair in the next room. I walked to it and lied back. He pressed around my hips and ribs, positioning me right. He quickly pulled up my shirt and wiped it off with a cloth. "This is going to be a little warm but it won't burn." he informed. I nodded and he squeezed the blue gel on my abdomen. I wiggled around at he consistency. It felt like mashed up Jello, and didn't look too different either. "This is just the wand to hear the heartbeat and see the baby." he said before pressing it to the gel. He glided it around for a second before you could hear a thumping and a small thumping echoing. "What's that?" Sawyer asked, holding my hand tighter. "Well the louder one is Marley's and the echo is baby's." the doctor answered. "Damn, Peanut." he said. That heartbeat is a sound you can never get out of your head. Sorta like the tune to your favorite song, or the footsteps of your dad when he gets home from work. I just stayed content with hearing Peanut's heart flutter away. "Now, to see baby." He moved the wand around, finally finding a small circle in the middle of the darkness. Inside the circle was a smaller circle. "That's your baby." he said pointing to the smaller circle. "That?" I asked. Dr. Dew nodded. "Wow." Sawyer and I said in unison. That was our baby. "Most beautiful little thing I've ever seen." Sawyer whispered happily.
