[One Month Later]

I lock arms with my mommy as we walk out of the court room. First court hearing and it went well. Both sides were just going over the facts of the case so it wasn't anything special.

The hardest part of this hearing was seeing Safaree for the first time since the night I called the cops. It just brought back so much and it made me feel vulnerable again.

I froze up when I saw him walk in, but Beyoncé comforted me as best as she could in that moment. The tension between my family and his inside the court room was so intense and I could just feel them labeling me as a liar with their eyes and their stares every once in a while.

"Nika, what are you doing now?" My father asks, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I shrug. "Going home. I want to relax for a bit." I tell him and he nods as my mom caresses my hand.

"Okay, you go do that, sweetheart. Call us if anything. I'm gonna go start the car, Carol, I'll be back." He says as he walks away.

"You sure you don't want to come home with us, baby?" My mommy asks and I giggle. "Yeah, I'm sure. I need to get my mind off of this just for a minute. I'll be over there later tonight." I tell her and she smiles.

I turn towards the doors of the court room and see Safaree's lawyer walking out then I see Beyoncé walk out with her briefcase in her hand. She spots me looking at her so she smiles at me then I do the same back.

Noticing Beyoncé is coming up to me, I take a deep breath.

"How do you feel, Onika?" She asks me as she stands before my mom and I.

"Good. It went well. Thank you." I smile at her.

"It's my pleasure. Are you busy?" She asks and I furrow my eyebrows slightly then feel my mom detach her arm from mine.

"Your father is coming back inside, Onika, I'm going to leave. See you later. Call me when you get home. Bye, Mrs. Knowles!" She kisses my cheek and I nod at her as she walks away to meet my father.

I turn back to face Beyoncé and I giggle. "Sorry. No, I'm not busy. I was just gonna go home." I tell her as I cross my arms over my chest.

"Well, in that case, would you mind grabbing a bite to eat with me?" She says and I try not to make a face.

"Just to help you get your mind off things, nothing else." She assures me and I smile slightly. This beautiful woman is doing so much for me, I might as well go out to eat with her.

She smiles. "You could even go home and do what you gotta do and I'll pick you up in... 2 hours?" She says as she checks the rose gold Apple Watch on her wrist. She is very persistent.

"Okay, I'll go with you." I tell her with a small smile and we both begin walking out of the courthouse.

"I'll pick you up around 2:30?" She says and I nod. "Sounds good." I simply say as we stand next to my car. I lean in for a quick hug and she accepts.

"Thank you for today and trying to comfort me when he came in." I tell her honestly and we pull away and I kiss her cheek. "It's the least I could do." She smiles and we exchange goodbyes then I hop in my car and drive off.
