Tigerpaw jumped to his paws and pelted out of the den towards his mentor, forgetting about his dream. My first patrol!
Flamepelt looked at her apprentice, a flicker of guilt in her gaze. "I'm sorry Tigerpaw, but we're not going. Drizzlestar has asked to speak with you."
"What!" Tigerpaw started.
"Tigerpaw. Please follow me to my den."
He turned around to see Drizzlestar standing behind him. He knew better than to argue with the leader.
He dipped his head and obediently followed her to her den."Is this about the dream I had last night?" Tigerpaw ventured as they settled in.
Drizzlestar's eyes widened with interest. "What dream? Tell me about it."
Tigerpaw shifted his paws. "Well, I saw two cats on the Hightree, I couldn't recognize them. Then a StarClan cat, Stonestar, told me this; 'When the clans are forced to come together, they will become even more broken apart than they were before.'"
"Forced to come together?" Drizzlestar trailed off. She looked at him sternly. "I had the same dream. But I saw the cats on the Hightree, only one though. The only one I could see was you. You must be destined to be leader!"
"No way." Tigerpaw said breathlessly.
Drizzlestar nodded, her expression turning serious. "I will take over your training from now on. Flamepelt and Featherheart will be your guards. The prophecy must become reality!"
Tigerpaw stood there in shock. I'm destined to be leader!
Drizzlestar's mew broke his thoughts. "I will tell them now. You must start your training as soon as possible!""Attack me." Drizzlestar ordered, lashing her tail. Tigerpaw nodded and leapt, landing on the ground. He looked at his leader again, who was a tail length away from him.
"You were too slow and clumsy. Good for your first time though." Drizzlestar praised. "Try something else, a different strategy. Look at my paws but aim for my face."
Instead Tigerpaw crouched down, and got ready to jump. She'll think that I'm going to jump on her for sure!
Tigerpaw quickly swiped at the leaders legs, making her fall. He jumped on her and pinned her down. "Did I do a good job?"
Drizzlestar nodded. "Yes, very good. It could still use some work though."Tigerpaw was training with Drizzlestar for hours. He was more tired than he'd ever been in his whole life.
They were padding back to camp as Drizzlestar quickly turned on him.
She knocked into him, sending him into a bush. Tigerpaw got out, shocked. Drizzlestar quickly pinned him. Tigerpaw thought about what she taught him and kicked her off.
"Very good. Remember Tigerpaw, never let your guard down." Drizzlestar panted. "Now get some prey and rest."The next morning, Drizzlestar woke him up early to take him hunting.
"What can you smell?" The gray and white she-cat asked.
Tigerpaw opened his mouth and tasted the air. "I can smell mouse, over there in that bush..... squirrel in this tree next to us.... and.... rabbit, under us?"
Drizzlestar nodded. "Very good. Now to crouch-"
Tigerpaw quickly dropped into a hunting crouch, smiling.
"Yes. Seems like you have that down." She meowed approvingly. "Now catch that mouse."
Tigerpaw got the mouse in sight and crept toward it. Once he was close enough, he pounced, his paws landing right on his prey. He sank his teeth into its neck and said his thanks to StarClan. He brought it back to Drizzlestar and dropped it at her paws. The leader looked at his catch.
"A scrawny little thing but good enough." Drizzlestar looked up at the tree. "How about that squirrel? It's big enough to feed at least two warriors."
Tigerpaw climbed swiftly up the tree and stopped on the branch next to the squirrel. He jumped toward the squirrel and pushed it off the branch, making the squirrel fall.
Tigerpaw looked down as the squirrel landed with a thump on the ground. He climbed back down and picked up his catch.
Drizzlestar looked at him with pride. "Nice work, Tigerpaw. Now let's bring these back to camp."Tigerpaw curled up in his nest beside Drizzlestar. The leader had ordered him to stay protected and guarded at all times, and she felt he wouldn't be safe in the apprentice's den. Flamepelt and Featherheart stood guard outside her den. He could still hardly believe he was destined to become leader. Drizzlestar had been treating him like a StarClan warrior. Could life get any better?
