I heard the rushing of my father and the sound of what seemed to be a little kid crying. I peek around the corner of the doorway to my father's clinic and made eye contact with a little blonde girl with blue eyes, or at least in the moment I thought it was a girl, I looked at him for a little longer and sure enough this scrawny kid was a boy.
He was crying, he had a bruise on his cheek and many more down his arms and legs, his skin was cut and scraped in various places and his arm didn't look like it was bent the right way. And I was the one who brought him here.
What happened to this kid? That was all I could think about.
"What's your name?" I heard my father asking the boy over and over. The kid wouldn't respond so he called my mother in. "Carla, please comfort him, he's severely distressed."
My mother swooped the boy up into her arms and cradled him gently, shushing him quietly and stroking his hair. I was kind of jealous. Why is this random kid getting all my Mommy's attention? "What's your name, sweetheart, we need to find your mommy.." She spoke softly to him.
"A-Armin.." The little boy whimpered.
"Hello Armin, I'm Grisha. I'm a doctor, and I want to help you.." My father told him. All my dad's patients had come to him for help, but I brought Armin here.
My dad started to bandage Armin's wounds. The boy winced and cried. My mom had left and had started asking the neighbours if they knew who his mother was. Ten minutes later and this lady with blonde hair in a ponytail came rushing in, followed by a man with light brown hair.
She picked Armin up and he clung onto her tightly. "M-Mommy..." he whispered.
"Shh, I'm here..." She replied softly whilst stroking his hair and rocking him, similar to how my mother does to me.
I tug on the back of my mother's dress. She turns around and lifts me up, planting a sloppy kiss on my cheek.
"I'm proud of you.." she smiles at me.
"What for?" I look up at her.
"Because you saved this little boy, how about you try making friends with him?"I didn't answer her, I instead look at Armin. He had stopped crying now and looked over at me with gratitude. My father started talking with Armin's, asking him his age, and if he knows what happened. Turns out, Armin was severely bullied by other children.
"Bring him back here in a couple days and I'll take a look at him. I'm happy to be his doctor from now on." My father explained. That means I'll be seeing more of this Armin kid. He better be nice. Not like the other kids...
______________
Sure enough, Armin returned a couple days later and dropped him off for a checkup before leaving, they worked most hours of the day.
Armin was sitting on the exam table, and I was watching from a distance. He smiles at me and I give him a tiny smile back, I'm not sure if he noticed.
"Eren, come help me check Armin.." My Dad smiled. He was probably setting us up to be friends, I didn't have any friends, and neither did Armin.
I had to help weigh this kid. He was thirty-four pounds. I wasn't an expert but I knew he was only a little thing. I myself was forty-two pounds, at least I was when I had my last checkup. He was shorter than average too, he really was tiny. Kinda cute.
My dad pulled a syringe out and Armin started to panic. "It's alright, it's just to help with the pain." My Dad reassured him. I hated needles, and so did he apparently.
My father pulled Armin's shorts down and I knew that this one was either going in his thigh or in his butt, so I giggled a little. He must have heard me since he was blushing.
My dad told me to leave. No fair, I wanted to see.
