I stand next to Carlisle and Esme, holding my breath and trying to act like I am doing great, but actually I am scared to death. As a human, I should really care about my life but I do not. I am utterly scared by what the Volturi will do to my family, to the coven, to us. I could not live in a world in which the Cullen do not exist anymore.
Nervously, I bite my lower lip and I accidentally make it bleed. Everyone turns to look at me and I sigh, doing my best for making it stop quickly.
«Demetri must have already smelt it» Edward comments, shaking his head worryingly. «Let him enjoy it» I simply say, letting my eyes wonder around the waste land in front of us. I am starting to hate all this snow. «I can feel their thoughts... They're getting closer» Edward says again, holding Bella's hand and staring at the horizon.
After five minutes, a line of black and red cloaks appears in front of us. I have always pictured the Volturi as the members of a royal house and, honestly, I was not so wrong. They all seem to be rich and respectable people and , judging by their steady walk, they really look like an ancien army of knights ready to fight for their values.
I look at them, almost mesmerized, but then I stop when my eyes meet the red ones of a young and effortlessly beautiful vampire. She has a pair of deep ruby eyes and a perfect pale skin. Her red hair are curly and long and her plumped lips are simply fascinating.
I blush and look down at my feet, trying to protect my mind from Edward. I have to confess that I am intrigued by her physical appearance, she is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my whole life.
I cross my arms against my chest and face the scary army ,which has just stopped their walk a few steps away from us, and my eyes meet the ones of a male vampire. His eyes are darker than the ones of the pretty girl I have seen before and his lips are slightly curved in a smile. He is staring at me as if I was a dessert, or something like that.
«Carslisle, there's not just a strange creature in your coven, but we can even smell the delicious scent of a human. Who is she?» Aro starts, as Caius smiles mischievously at me.
My father is about to retort, but I interrupt him and take a step forward.
«I am not a menace, Aro. Yes, I am just a human, but Carlisle has adopted me when I was a child and I'm actually a member of the Olympian coven. I'll become a vampire soon, I can assure you that» I say loudly, sinking my nails into my palms and making them bleed. A few drops of blood fall down on the white snow, povoking panic all around me. The Volturi growl and Emmett gets in front of me, trying to protect me from them.
«My dear human, I do not doubt about that. We are just interested in you. Why would you come to help a group of vampires, knowing that you could just end up as our meal? That's incredible!» Aro says , laughing lowly and taking a few steps towards us.
