I See His Hair of Blue Fluorescence Turn Cherry Red

Finals.

They are the Moriarty to my Sherlock since they seem to like to burn the heart right out of me...

Finals in your third year of college are especially grueling since, in my case, I'm just starting to plunge into the complex world of CSI work.

You see, CSI positions are for the people who can't run fast enough to catch the bad guys, but still, want to help. To be honest, the years upon years of NCIS and Criminal Minds I've watched made the CSI work look a lot easier than it actually is. In my newly, informed opinion, we have the more difficult job. But, that's just me, and as my roommate says, at least I won't be the one getting shot at...

But, finals. Finals are difficult every year, but I have an unfair amount of finals scheduled for next week. So, I've been studying late every night, on top of attending classes and my part-time job. So, I guess you could say I'm pretty much running off a combination of coffee and red bull right now.

I'm currently pulling up to Starbucks to procure the deliciousness that is caffeine and to study some more.

As the blue digits on my dash remind me it's currently 2:43am, I shut off my Volvo and grab my backpack from the passenger seat before getting out of the silver monster that is my main means of transportation.

When I enter Starbucks I'm immediately greeted by the warm scent of coffee and baked goods. I take a few deep breaths in and they seem to wake me up a bit more than I was before as I step up to the register right away. It being Saturday night, I was alone in Starbucks except for a few other college students hunched over their computers and typing rather determinedly.

"Triple shots of espresso mixed into a caramel macchiato with extra whipped cream, please." My gravely voice comes out with a bit of difficulty at first since I haven't used it lately.

"Is that all? We just took out some chocolate chip cookies, warm out of the oven." The thin brunette tries to tempt me and in short, she succeeds.

"That'd be great. One-no-TWO of those please." She laughs slightly in that warm, inviting sort of way and her hair turns a bright shade of yellow. I chuckle lightly back and suspect that my hair turns roughly the same color.

After waiting for my order and receiving the said order from the still yellow haired barista in her green apron and hat, I look around the room for a preferably somewhat private place to sit and work on my forensics term paper. Then I see him...

He's the only person in the coffee shop hunched intently over a book rather than some electronic device. I feel my face turn bright red and hope to god that my hair doesn't turn the same color thus indicating attraction. I gulp. No, I literally swallow my own built up saliva and feel my Adam's apple bob in a large showy move.

He was auburn hair, indicating concentration but I see parts of it flare blue and pink, for concern and adoration. 'He must love the characters in the book.' I think to myself. He has a set of blue rimmed glasses on and a too-big-for-him T-shirt with a bomber leather jacket over top of it. He's got sweatpants and sandals with socks on. His auburn hair looks soft... and fluffy. Like you could reach out and touch it and it'd be the softest thing you've ever touched.

"Are you okay?" The familiar barista's voice snaps me back to attention and a few people look up from their activities, including 'Him'.

"Yeah-yeah, I'm just going to-I mean, find a place to uh, sit. Yeah, thanks though." The flustered mess that is me found a seat by a window by the wall as I sloppily replied to the barista who was giving me a knowing look and glancing at my hair which let me know that it was almost definitely a flaming red color to match my cheeks.
