Chasing the Catch (HS A.U)

Chapter One

Skylar

Another Friday. One day closer to the last day of senior year. I've gone through four years of this hell we call school, and I'm so ready to be done.

"Skylar!" My best friend Emily called. "Were you going to leave me here?" She laughed.

"Yeah, I was going to leave you stranded without a ride home," I retorted.

"Wow, I feel so loved," she gushed, jokingly.

"Come on you crazy. Let's get out of here," I said, getting into the drivers seat.

As I was getting ready to pull out of my parking spot, the biggest douche in school, Ethan, came up to my car and knocked on my window.

"What the hell do you want, Ethan?" I asked annoyed.

"Just wanted to tell you that if you go into the woods this weekend, beware. You won't get out alive," he smirked.

"Great, cool, I don't care. Now get off my car before it gets douche stains all over it," I insulted.

"Just warning you." He said and walked off.

"God, I hate him," Emily sighed.
"Same, lets just go," I said as I put the car in gear and drove away.

"So, do you believe him?" Emily asked as I drove.
"Who?" I asked, not understanding who she meant.
"Ethan," she responded. I thought for a moment.

"No, he's just trying to get to me, since he knows I go into the woods more than the average person," I said chuckling.

Ever since I was twelve, I've been going to the woods, or 'the Forest of Dreams' as I like to call it, on the outskirts of our town just outside of Los Angeles. There's always been rumours of these said 'creatures' that live in this forest. However, I have yet to see one animal even slightly out of proportion. When Ethan 'warned' me, I just brushed him off. Granted, I never believe anything the guy says, since he lies about everything, pretty much.

"Yeah, that's true," Emily mumbled after a few minutes of silence, turning on the music to fill it. We belted out the lyrics to some of our favourite songs, completely off key, all the way to Emily's house.

"Alright honey, be careful in 'the Forest of Dreams' please. Don't really want you to get eaten by the 'creatures' out there," Emily told me whilst laughing.
"You know me. I'll get out of there alive," I said, saluting her.

Little did I know, that would be the last time I'll ever see my best friend, as far as I know.
