Well shit.
My face in dirt, my body covered in bruises, and my money taken, again.
High school sucks ass. I muster up my will to rise on my feeble legs as I attempt to dust off the excess dirt from my body. I'm not quite sure why this happens to me, but at exactly two o'clock everyday a group of people decide "Let's go kick the shit out of the lame girl 'cause it's fun!".
Like seriously, get a life people.
I'm used to this by now, sometimes they're even sweet enough to leave cuts deep enough to leave scars. But honestly, they're just not worth the effort of a fight.
"Oh well." I grab my sad excuse of a backpack and head back to the school building, the bells going to ring soon and I need to grab my other shoes.
"Look, Emily got beat up again." I can hear the whispers around me as I open my entrance locker and shove my just as ratty shoes into the backpack,
"She's so creepy and leery." Jokes on all of you, I pet kittens on weekends. I slowly make my way out of this shitty high school and cringe at the thought of going back to the apartment.
Well, I guess something is better than nothing, right?
Wrong. That alone is proven as I open the door and find my roommate on the couch, naked, having sex with her new fling.
I don't even bother saying anything as I walk past and head into my sanctuary. My tiny room that has a rickety twin size bed and a small dresser. There's a tiny pocket mirror I use in attempt to make myself look decent for school, but honestly no matter how small it is, I love this little space of mine.
I get to come here when I need or want to get away, the world has been pretty unkind to me since I was about ten years old. I've endured long and hard to get where I'm at right now; and honestly, despite everything else, I don't regret anything I've done this far.
I plop myself on my bed and close my eyes and heave a deep sigh,
But I can't help but wonder, would things be different if I had stayed?
Memories follow that I can't stop,
"Hey Middy! Wanna go for a run?" I don't remember the face or voice, only the name, Fang. I close my eyes, hoping somewhere deep in my thoughts I can remember his face, but it just alludes me. But his kindness, the way he helped me through the dark times and the dreams, and even his goodbye...
"This isn't goodbye right? We'll see each other again someday Middy, it's a promise!" I wonder what he would think of me now as I slowly drift off to sleep.
~~~
"Um, what's going on?" It's 5 a.m., I'm in a baggy t-shirt and my checkered boxers for pants, and it's a weekend.
A fucking weekend.
WHO THE HELL IS UP THIS EARLY ON A WEEKEND?!
Actually I ended up waking up to my roommate yelling, naturally, I assumed it was the guy she was with last night. However, the guy standing in the living room holding a gun isn't the type of foreplay I think she's into.
"Give me all the money you have! NOW!" Great, so this guy's a robber. My roommate is shaking in fear and stuttering in her pink tank-top and white laced panties.
"Look dude, we're dead broke high school students. So why don't we-"
"Shut the fuck up girl! Or I'll put a bullet right in your pretty skull!" Wow, someone's got anger issues. I heave a sigh and raise my arms in the air, showing surrender. He pulls out two ropes and quickly ties them around our wrists.
He slams both of us up against the wall as he raids the apartment looking for anything semi-valuable. But that's not even the part that annoys me, it's my roommate's excessive whimpering.
"Dude, please shut up." I glare at her and she is too scared to even get offended. I hear the man giving frustrated grunts as he isn't finding what he's looking for.
Like, why would I lie to a guy who holds me at gunpoint right?
After trashing the whole apartment, the guy sits in the chair in defeat,
"Didn't find what you were looking for, huh?" You know, as the words left my mouth, I realized something. I have an extraordinary gift.
Of pissing people off.
His face turns to pure rage and he flies across the room, pulling me up by my hair.
"Listen here, I'm just gonna kill you both. But you, I'll do it slowly." His breath reeks of tobacco and alcohol and I can't stand it. His threats ring empty in my mind, in fact, it actually makes me want to giggle.
"Kill me?" Death, actually, is a fascinating thing. It controls the recklessness of individuals, and it can be used to persuade anyone to do anything. This man in front of me is no exception, no one is.
Except me.
I look this man deep into his light brown eyes, and I let him see the real me.
"You're going to kill me?" I can feel it, while it's been so long since I've released it, I can still feel it stirring. The eerie presence...the flames from the depths of the Underworld...
The stench of death.
I can feel his soul shudder in fear under my own, and I can't help but enjoy it. He drops me and stumbles backwards, his hand now shaking as he points the gun at me.
"W-what are you?!" His voice quivers just as much as his body, but I don't cease my aura. "I'll kill you!" He cocks the gun now, his finger just about to squeeze the trigger,
"I believe that's quite enough sir."
