Warning: Mentions of death
---------------------------

In the beginning, the disease had cropped up in five different towns in just one night. The next morning the news was all over it. Some of them were trying to explain the sudden yet alarming situation, others were trying to calm down the public saying it was simply the flu. Of course, at this time nobody knew for real what was happening.

Soon rumors had begun spreading saying that it was a new outbreak of the Black Plague created by a crazy scientist, or that it was the government's newest plan in order to control you citizens. You even remember hearing the craziest one of them all: that aliens had visited earth and spread a disease as an experiment.

You slightly shake your head at the memory as you watch the sun rise into the dull morning sky, slowly but steady illuminating the abandoned city beneath you. Despite it being so quiet you can hear yourself inhale the crispy, cold air, the bumblebees around you are still as active as they ever were. If you close your eyes and focus on the present, it almost feels like nothing have changed. However, that was just wishful thinking.

In the few weeks following the first outbreak, facts about the disease started to flood in. Apparently, the bacteria were thought to have originated from a small town in Argentina and then slowly had spread to where you live through either animals or airplanes. Nevertheless, it wasn't until they announced that most of the population was already infected that the panic started.

In fact, if you remember correctly a scientist published her hypothesis that because of the bacteria being highly contagious but showed no symptoms, it had managed to spread all around the world unnoticed. Therefore she theorized that almost everyone was infected. At this point, though, the bacteria had mutated to show light symptoms, hence why it wasn't discovered until then and why it had managed to appear everywhere so quickly. She stressed though that there was no need to worry as it only caused slight nausea and headaches, so some antibiotics would probably help the situation.

Her last statement proved to be wrong.

As a matter of fact, the rest is kind of blurry to you. The disease now called the Curable Decay, which seemingly was a very misleading name, soon mutated once again but this time with highly fatal symptoms. The good news was that the disease stopped spreading because its victim died before they could infect someone else. The bad news was that, well, everyone started dying around you.

Mass panic broke out, people turned hostile to strangers, new towns were put in quarantine daily and the search for a cure was now the top priority. As the disease had shown resistant to antibiotics people tried to find an alternative cure, but they were too late. The last thing you remember was the local news reporting that all countries were officially infected, then the power supply was cut.

One day you woke up shivering since your cover had somehow fallen onto the floor. It was still early in the morning, hence why the birds were chirping just like any other day. However, it wasn't any other day. It was the day you recognized familiar lifeless bodies scattered all around you. The day you realized you were the only one still alive. The day you fled your town to suppress the memories.

You don't question your survival, but you're neither thankful for it. For anyone doomed to walk around the earth alone, it's not exactly something to appreciate. However, you're not alone.

Maybe it was a wicked twist of fate, but when you were making your way out of town through the lonely streets, you met him. The guy you had secretly been admiring from afar and dreaming of, and he was standing right in front of you looking just as clueless as you were.

That day you realized you weren't the only survivor, but you and your crush were.

Hi everyone! Thank you for reading the first part of this mini-series, called "The End of the World". It will consist of maybe two or three parts. In this chapter, I mostly just set the scene and mood so you get a little background info on what has happened in this AU. However in the next chapter, the real action will begin ;)

If you noticed in the amazing banner made by SimplyDilsaaa that I added something called "length", then good on you. For each short story or scenario I'll write the length of them: long being several parts, medium being just a one-shot that's long, and short being a short one-shot.

If you're confused on how to adjust this story so it will fit into your situation, then don't worry I'll explain it. The story, as all the other stories in this book will be, is written in a second person perspective. This means that I'm narrating what's happening to you, and when I'm talking about "your crush" you should just imagine that person as your crush. Simple. I'll try to be as abstract as I can with the descriptive parts so it will fit for everyone.

If you enjoyed this chapter, don't forget to comment, vote and follow me to get an update when the second chapter comes up! Also if you have any suggestions on what should happen in the next part, just comment it!
